The hooks on this album are among their best. Lookers-Black Mass is my favorite stretch of songs so far.
I'm not listening on my studio monitors so I havent picked out the intricacies but on my bookshelf speakers it sounds basically the same as the last two albums, straightforward and unobtrusive, gives the songs plenty of room to breathe and speak for themselves. Exactly what a band like this needs in the production realm
we both got worthless diplomas, from worthless universities. two bachelors of worthless studies but at least it made our parents happy and cost a whole lot of monaaaaaay
This album is fucking great so far. That first verse to Midwestern States is hitting way too close to home for me right now
To my untrained ear it sounds a lot warmer in terms of the guitar tones but that might also be due to chords etc but yeah the songs are definitely allowed to breathe, bit more than on previous albums imo, can hear a lot more a lot more clearly which is why I was interested, certain songs on CW and OTIP in particular I can barely hear the rythym guitar at all but on this everything's a lot easier to hear Will Yip actually did a really gr9 job on this I'm very happy
you arent ready Jordan. theres also a lyric regarding falling asleep while watching Netflix that hits close
Will Yip hate is so 2012-2013, he has a lot of good sounding records under his belt in recent years. La Dispute, Pianos, Tigers Jaw, MWY, Code Orange, and more have put out good to great sounding yip records. He's still not the best and not everything is great but he's no longer someone who deserves to be maligned for his style at all
Definitely never hated the guy as much as I've seen on this site and AP as I love 3 of those records you mentioned (being La Dispute Pianos and Tigers Jaw), but Balance and Composure made me a bit nervous about this, haha. That record always sticks in my mind whenever I hear he's producing something, but even so it's more that I'm genuinely really glad he did a bloody great job on this album than surprise that he's not a bad producer
This is the absolute best both singers have sounded on any of their albums and I'm so happy he brought this level out of them. The guitars sound so damn good too - wish the drums had a bit more, I dunno, weight to them, but other than that I feel like the production is a fuckin job well done
I just got home from a long day at work and I'm starving, but I'm busting out my junky laptop that I haven't used in two years because I need to hear this. Hopefully I'll have it downloaded before morning lol.
Literally just left work early to get home and hear this. Told the boss something important came up, which technically isn't bullshit.
Yeah he did that one. That one sounds great too. He's definitely come a long way listening back to TTWTWM
Tell you what, I forgot about that album, haha. Definitely has great production, I need to revisit it. Wasn't what I needed at the time, I suppose. I meant their second album, The Things We Think We're Missing.
