Looks like people started getting their preorders and have DL codes that work soooo might hear this very soon. If they sent out the album early I'd also expect a stream. I'm so mad at myself that I didn't order it
I wish I was you. I luckily didn't listen to After the Party but my god Lookers and Bad Catholics each have 200+ plays.
Tried this band a while ago and didn't really get it, but persistent praise here and on Twitter got me to listen to After the Party and it's such a GOAT song, and going through their old stuff and really liking it right now. Roll on Friday!
This release has the chance to propel these guys into my favorite bands. I love OTIP and Rented World so much.
I found the 30 sec snippets (After The Party), trying to exercise some self restraint so I only played them once. If you're a fan of Greg songs over Tom songs you're gonna be happy with this one...
Yeah, I never really gravitated towards Tom's songs. Mainly bc of the lyrics, but his songs are fun. Greg on the other hand though, Greg is something special.
It's not that I hate Tom songs or anything like that, it's just all my favorites always end up Greg songs. Rented World had In Remission, IDWBAAA, Rodent, Nothing Feels Good Anymore as my top and they're all him. So I guess I'm just more into his style...without taking anything away from Tom. Either way this just makes me even more pumped and I will ABSOLUTELY NOT listen to those clips this close in the game.
Interesting too that a couple of reviews mention Gregs vocals specifically without mention of tom. Tells me that maybe Greg has a few more songs on here. I'm still not sure who sings what songs at times though ha, I'm a noob tho
Don't wanna start another Greg v. Tom debate but was listening to Chamberlain Waits the other day and the parity on that album between the two is tremendous.
Tom and Greg sound a lot alike so I'm sure a lot of people think there's only 1 vocalist I know many of us on here and AP have admitted to not realizing there were 2. Those snippets are really really really good
Yeah I'm cursing myself for even half-listening once. I more did so out of curiosity of which songs were Greg and which were Tom and then turned them off. They sound fantastic though. I'm in the same boat, I like a lot of Tom's songs and don't want to take anything away from him but if I am going to list my top songs from all the albums they're all Greg's. One problem I had with RW was that I didn't get a sense that the two were tied thematically in terms of songwriting -- I find myself feeling like "Transient Love" runs perfectly with "Nothing Feels Good Anymore" and then "In Remission", but "The Talk" and "Hearts Unknown" are just kind of there, good songs taking up space in between. From what I can gather from After the Party, there is a stronger sense of cohesiveness between the two and they're working with the same themes so I'm excited to hear. And frankly I'm surprised that the split between Greg songs and Tom songs is so lopsided.
I feel that Chamberlain Waits is way better in terms of parity between the two than RW. I would like to see more songs in the future where they play off each other in songs --- when Greg comes in out of nowhere on the chorus of "They Speak of My Drinking..." on Hold on Dodge, it's so awesome.
I wonder if there are more songs with both singing that the clips didn't show? It is funny though because until Rented World I never thought of songs as "Greg songs" vs. "Tom songs." Sorta like with blink I only started thinking of "Mark songs" vs. "Tom songs" with the self-titled album.
