Other responses to takes: Shoddy Workmanship is a phenomenal track Gates doesn't do all that much for me Freedom Bridge is a fine closer The back and forth between Greg and Bobby on this tracks is wonderful
It pleases me to no end to see an increase in hot takes. Well done, everyone. Just a great job all around.
I need to revisit The Future Is Cancelled now. I also never put together the Sunday Morning + Brothers/Shoddy reference. That's awesome
Isn't it too late for hot takes? Are they not by definition not thought out due to recency of the take? I have no hot takes as a result. Ice cold take: I think it'd be cool if Greg and/or Tom wrote a book fleshing out some of the themes on their albums. I like books. I want everything to have a book.
Just re-listened to TFIC and the divide in quality between Bobby and Leo is not nearly as great as between Greg and Tom
i think it's the opposite, haha. i saw CWS and bobby wasn't at the show and the set was really subpar songwise
Interesting. At least for me, when I hear a song like Beer Can or Here's to Forever I can envision Bobby having written them and singing them. On the other hand, there's no way I could have pictured Greg writing Ava House or the Talk
I really like Tom's songs. I know Greg gets most of the love here, but it's whatever. Tom has some really strong material imo.
I love Lookers, but does anyone else wish the Chorus after the Bridge Hit a little Harder? I feel like that spot could have been produced better.
lookers is perf. anyone notice that there is some auto-tune in the bridge? is the new album the next Some Nights?????
So many records have various levels of auto-tune that it's essentially a useful industry standard. The Menzingers won't be using nearly the same amount as fun. They are going for different things on their respective records.
There is no quality difference between Tom/Greg or Bobby/Leo they're all phenomenal songwriters with highlights throughout each of their respective albums
I don't hear any quality difference tbh. Maybe on RW there is some, but OTIP and CW are nearly flawless songwriting wise. Same goes for TFIC. I think all 4 singers pull their weight and make the albums unique.
OTIP is a nearly perfect record, but if you look at greg's songs only vs. tom's songs only (not counting burn after writing) one would make an obviously better EP than the other imo. the album itself is cohesive & strong, but the individual songs that make it up have varying degrees of quality that's correlated with the person who wrote them as far as CW goes, i think neither songwriter had reached their peak & the production was not advanced enough to where you could easily tell the difference. but still, songs like i was born, time tables, and rivalries are clearly better than songs like who's your partner, home outgrown, male call, etc. ~imo~
i completely disagree, obviously haha. i think toms songs stand up incredibly well on their own. the only song i dont like as much is Freedom Bridge but I just think its a weird closer, not that its a bad song.
