Little Wounds, Hunting Trip, King of No Man. Last year at the NEPA Holiday show they played Little Wounds and King, this year hey did Little Wounds and Hunting Trip. Also played a new Leo song called Books this year. All great
Definitely does. OTIP and RW closers are kind of weak imo. Chamberlain Waits is one of my favorite Menz songs
Going back through the Future is Cancelled and it makes sense some people like it more than the Menzingers. A lot of folks on this site are really into the Wonder Years, Hotelier, and Pianos type of sounds wih indie and post hardcore influences. Captain fills that space more than the Menzingers do. Menzingers, to me are a pretty logical place to go if you are more into straightforward punk, like Red Scare and Fat bands.
Do the Wonder Years have indie/post jardcore influences in their sound though? Weird band to put beside the Hotelier and Pianos
I think there are moments of indie in their newer stuff. I included Wonder Years bc I think Soupy and one of the CWS vocalists have similar deliveries and pitch at times. I didn't really qualify that part haha.
there is one very obvious solution here: bobby leaves CWS and joins the menzingers tom leaves the menzingers and joins CWS everyone's happy!
not that weird, theyve always had that tinge of posthardcore and indie in their sound, especially with NCTH. Kennedys drums have always screamed posthardcore.
Greg sounds are definitely better than Tom songs but it wouldn't be The Menzingers without both of them. Hoping Tom has some standouts on this new one though.
For me personally, I like the Menzingers more than CWS. But going back through some of their stuff and crossing that with the folks in here, I really think it makes sense based on what they seem to be into. I like CWS, the Wonder Years, Pianos, etc, but those aren't my fallback bands. None of them have written my personal favorite records. When I think instant classic punk records, I am thinking How I Spent My Summer Vacation, And Out Come the Wolves, and more of the classics that I got into at a really young age. A lot of that carries over into the Menzingers. If you like the Clash and Rancid, the Menzingers are a pretty easy band to get into.
Damn, haha no love for Freedom Bridge. I like how bleak that song is. I think it really fits the mood of the album and fits thematically. Plus, I have this weird thing with ending albums on more mellow/slower songs. I Can't Seem to Tell is a little too upbeat for a closer. I would want more after that song, so to your point I guess it could work. That can also be a good way to close an album by making the listener want more at the end.
Though I disagree, I think this thread is really missing more hot takes haha. I think OTIP is pretty damn near perfect as it is.
i like Freedom Bridge a lot but I think its a weird choice for a closer. Hell, Casey wouldve been a better closer imo. Chamberlain Waits and When You Died are fantastic closers in contrast.
I tend to skip a lot of the Tom songs on the albums. I Can't Seem to Tell would've been a great closer.
I honestly can't think of another place for Freedom Bridge than as the closer. Casey into ICSTT into FB is just perfect, I wouldn't change a thing, like the album itself haha. Also I still can't get into When You Died. I think Sentimental Physics would work as the closer, one of the best Tom songs.
i really only skip his songs on RW, it's really like Greg got way better and Tom got way worse lol Transient Love into "The Talk" is offensive
Toms best songs are on CW but I think his songs on OTIP are as good as Gregs and RW theyre just slightly below. Hes a great vocalist and songwriter. From what I understand hes also plays a big role in writing and arranging the guitars which is cool.
I would just put FB as a bonus track or something. Its a fine song but idk, its just weird as a closer. I feel like ICSTT deals more with the overall themes of the record than FB does.
