I think you'd love it Those were albums that I was there for when they released, no devo was later in life but I agree
It was my OTIP of the year after it came out (though not as great). It's actually Greg's brother, haha. It's very good.
It's got a good bit in common with OTIP. Anthemic, punk roots, thematicly cohesive, has a Barnett brother in it. But it's a fair bit different. It's darker, more aggressive, kind of depressing. But it's beautiful.
The Holy Mess (RIP) deserve way more love too if we're talking about that Scrantadelphia clique. Their last two albums were some of my favorites in the genre for the past decade
would argue that "brother", "annina", and "montreal" are as good as or better than most songs on otip, but as a cohesive album otip works so much better than the future is cancelled.
same honestly both the menzingers and captain we're sinking would both be so much better if greg and bobby were the only people singing/writing lyrics. i love otip to death and it is one of my favorite records ever but i can't help but notice how much better greg's songs are than tom's. i think the only tom songs that are essential to the record are burn and sculptors
I've come around on Freedom Bridge a lot, I think it's a really great closer with the, admittedly bleak, images of people killing themselves to complement the depressing lyrics of good things. I wouldn't change a thing about OTIP though, even though I much prefer the Greg songs. Also gonna hype up the TFIC love. @nothingsforeverdude 's song recs from the album are on point, fantastic songs. Still a contender for AOTY from 2013 along with Restorations' LP2.
The other singer from Captain sounds so much like the guy from Dikembe....and it annoys me so much. Not to mention, yeah, his songs are way weaker imo. Imagine a Greg and Bobby band? Oh damn haha.
Need to spend more time with the future is cancelled but I definitely did not see it as otip level. However I'm not as familiar with the lyrics which would be a big factor; musically they're on par imo just one means more to me. Both are tight though
I feel that a lot of the time to (at least for Menzingers, haven't listened to CWS, but I'm working on it), however I do like Tom's voice a good bit and I think that he and Greg vocally mesh pretty well. Also I like Ava House a lot. Just a thumper of a jam and I can't help but tap my feet at the chorus.
I love Tom and Leo's songwriting as much as Greg and Bobbys honestly. Honesty the only song on OTIP I'm not crazy about is its title track.
Fuckinnnnnn which ones tell me now I beg of you kind fellow Also Montreal is one of those songs which makes you instantly fall in love with a band, I was dying waiting for TFIC to come out after I heard it
