i wish i liked this thing as much. i love all the Tom songs, the title track, and Bad Catholics but while i like everything else none of it is classic to me and i can barely stand Lookers anymore i love Toy Soldier and The Freaks so deeply though, i have no doubt their next stuff is gonna slay me
It's really tough for me. I love and have completely overplayed every record of theirs. It's between this and OTIP for me
Rented World is immovable for me due to a strong personal relationship with that record, i can’t reconcile the fact that they never play Nothing Feels Good Anymore it’s a crime
I'd agree with this ATP sounds fresh every time I listen where as I may have overplayed OTIP but it's still incredible
Chamberlain is definitely right up there with ATP + OTIP. I love RW but it's just like the tiniest bit down from the others Really hoping they do at least one album play for CW next year, I will absolutely be there.
Let’s all hope it’s not the case. I still listen After The Party a lot and Toy Soldiers/The Freaks are great. I really want to hear their Record Store Day songs and I hope they are available digitally somewhere.
As much as I’d love a new album this year... there’s something special about starting a new album cycle in a new decade. “After the party, I woke up hungover in 2020.”
Even now I forget that "After the Party" isn't the last song on the album. Truly one of the more baffling sequencing decisions I've ever seen.
I actually feel like it wraps up the album and you have this cool chill hidden track after it. If it was first released on cassette there definitely would have been some silence in there before Livin Ain’t Easy. The After The Party era (including bsides, additional singles The Freaks and Toy Soldier and covers EP) is a huge standout to me. I wish bands would still make robust album eras like this more often.
Livin Aint Easy is a perfect closer. ATP works so much better as the penultimate song if youre considering the reverse sequencing.
"I was there when the wall came down I'll be there when the ocean rises" is a fucking bummer lyric that I've never really noticed before.
