Also I relistened to these guys discography the other day. OTIP is such an amazing album. Obituaries, Mexican Guitars and Casey in particular stood out to me. I love in the last half to the last two (especially Casey) when the drummer hits his symbols in time with the vocal melodies.
Here to say Toy Soldiers is an incredible insta-classic. Nobody can making audio moping sound so catchy. Hope this means we have a new album on its way. *vanishes in cloud of smoke*
Thanks for the heads up! Bought After the Party. They are playing in Bethlehem, PA at a small venue that never books punk bands. It should be interesting. I have to DJ a wedding but there are three openers, so I may make it in time!
With a 30 minute Menz set it's actually pretty tough to guess what they will play but my assumption Tellin Lies Asshole Good Things Burn Toy Soldier Obituaries Lookers Thick As Thieves After The Party In Remission This is actually 33 mins but I can't imagine what they'd cut besides Thick As Thieves but I don't think they would only have 1 Tom song
I think in that scenario, Toy Soldier and Thick as Thieves will be the rotation songs that could vary. In the case of Chicago, they will have Midwestern States in the set.
I’ve actually gone back to Selfhood and don’t think it’s all that bad as I previously had though, but yeah the compilation album and No Gods are great.
I was going to put a / House on Fire there because I definitely think either are possible I think they will definitely play Toy Soldiers every night / hope! And you're right they will def play Midwestern States in Chicago
I remember getting an advance of the show of hands ep and being instantly hooked on that band. It's a shame they dropped off the way they did. Trains and It All Relates were bangers.
Anyone know whether Toy Soldiers is just a standalone, or part of something bigger yet? When bands are on a roll I don't mind them pumping out albums in relatively quick succession, and the Menzingers are definitely in that category.
Midwestern States comes before Your Wild Years on the album so Chicago > Boston obv Also they recorded CW and OTIP in Chicago so >>>>>
I was super surprised that on their Spotify top played, the top five are all from this album and rented world. not that they're lesser by any means but definitely not what I'd have expected
also is it just me or is the last song on rented world taking a little bit from Weezer's butterfly? but might be the same key or same progression or smth cause its not exact
toy soldier also reminds me of Weezer in the guitars and the ooh oohs but just those the drumming is way different
