The Flatliners, The Dopamines, The Dirty Nil (compilation album) and not sure if these really count but: Cloud Nothings Japandroids, White Reaper
Also referring to best Menz songs as Mt Menzmore is the best thing I've ever seen in this thread for sure
Fully support this. Flatties and The Dirty Nil are two of my favorites of the year and I've been playing White Reaper a ton since discovering it last week.
They end their albums like Game of Thrones ends its seasons. Massive penultimate track/episode designed to crush you, and then a closer that kind of ties up all the loose ends thematically.
Listening to this a lot the past few days. Probably my AOTY. Seeing them live was so fun. Worst song is still Charlie's Army
Charlie's Army isn't my favorite on the album, but it's still a fun song to jam along to. Black Mass is the only song that I end up skipping regularly.
Charlie's Army is my least favorite, I wish the first chorus was as good as the second one and then it'd still be my least favorite but at least it wouldn't be as obviously weaker
My friend who got me into the Menzingers passed away about a month after this was released. The last conversation we had was about how much he liked Black Mass, so I have all of that emotional attachment to it. Enjoyed it before, too, tho
The Bars is probably my least favorite on the record. I love Charlie's Army. It reminds me of a 1950's jukebox dance song.
Charlie’s Army is a hell of a fun song. It serves as a fast, catchy, not too serious reflection of being in your 20’s and liking a girl with a shitty boyfriend and the screwing around that comes with that territory. It’s not my top song or anything, but I think it fits as a slice of life piece to the overall narrative of the album. It seems meant to be played live and to have a hilarious music video to go along with it. I was very sad they didn’t play it in the 4 shows I saw after the album.
That's how I feel about it. Not a "serious" song with introspective lyrics, but it's a hell of a good time. It's a song I could see The Bouncing Souls recording, which I think may have been their intent.
I think it was this thread where someone said something about Charlie's Army being about Charlie from Always Sunny and that the army was an army of rats, so whenever I listen to the song I picture Charlie running around with an army of rats behind him. Therefore it's a 10/10 song
It's a good song on an album of really great ones imo. I'm not gonna skip it but it's not a track I look forward to or anything
"We used to get high and stare at the moon And wonder how long it would take to walk to But now that's like the distance between me and you" right in the feels
Every single time I listen to it I construct a cheesy, Grease inspired music video in my head. It's so much fun.
