Definitely feel like there's something special about the song vocally. It's infectious and it's one of the few times it feels like Greg let's loose when he's singing on this one
I'm half Irish and half Polish so the chorus means a lot to me in that regard haha but yeah that whole 2nd verse features some of Greg's best lyrics and delivery ever.
I think the second verse on that and Bad Catholics are some of his best lyrics. The imagery is perfect
When this record first came out i said the second verse of Catholics was my favorite music moment of 2017 thus far and that still holds true “It’s kind of strange how it made me miss something long lost in the both of us now” is way up high on the favorite lyrics list Also i finally got it on vinyl today
I can relate to bad Catholics in a crazy way haha. I see my ex fiancée all the time and she has two kids now. We used to Party pretty hard in college so yea ha. Honestly this is such a relatable record for me it, it’s third on my list this year but it might be the most important album of the year for me. Turning 30 literally a month before it dropped, I connected really hard with it.
Hadn't listened to this for the last three months until today. Someone slap me for being such an idiot...
First night was the same set they played in Baltimore, but they swapped in Mexican Guitars, Sun Hotel, Boy Blue, and Bad Things on Saturday. And changed up their Bouncing Souls cover to Manthem, which was incredible
oh boy oh boy I just remembered I'm seeing these with PUP and Cayetana in early feb! As a wee lad who barely gets off of the tiny rock he lives on, I am REALLY FUCKING EXCITED YOU GUYS
Finally got around to listening to this at work today. Really, really enjoyed it. Gonna have to give it another spin in a less distracted environment.
Tellin Lies, Lookers, and After The Party are definitely my top 3. Parsing out the rest is even more difficult. Might give Midwestern States the nod at #4 but even that's contested.
Def a solid top 3. Mine is something like: 1. Tellin’ Lies 2. After the Party 3. Lookers/Bad Catholics/Your Wild Years/Midwestern States (literally changes daily to choose, but it’s a toss up from these). I feel bad for Tom because it’s not like his songs are bad, it’s just Greg is an exceptional top tier songwriter and Tom unfortunately has to be directly compared to Greg.
I love the line about putting miles on our old jean jackets. My favorite would be Your Wild Years or After the Party
