We used to only take the back roads, But now we found a distance shorter. You used to call me darling, Now you prefer more formal. We used to get high and stare at the moon, And wonder how long it would take to walk to, But now that's like the distance between me and you. But hey, do you really want to throw it away? Do you really want to throw it away? I'd do anything to make you stay For just a little, just a little bit longer Majorly feeling Black Mass on a nostalgic level today.
This album was the only logical choice for what I should listen to on the drive to my first day of classes.
Tried listening to this while I golfed. Wasn't good for that. It did hit the spot on the drive home. Def still in my top 5. The title track is prob still my fav.
What I'd give to be back in school, walking around campus listening to "Livin' Ain't Easy", especially as the weather gets cooler and the leaves change colors.
Oh yeah, I suppose so. It feels weird to have started so early though (I'm in grad school now, and the school where I did my undergrad starts classes tomorrow).
Greg and Tom were the first guest on Chris Cresswell (The Flatliners) new podcast. It's a good listen!
they were so awesome last night. im so so so happy i got to see them finally after years of listening to them. Greg and Toms voices are perfect live. they sounded so tight. They did a Tom Petty cover which was cool. The crowd was pretty bad at the beginning of their set but it got better. i also think im just getting older and right in front of the stage is not a place for me anymore haha
Can anyone recommend any bands that have a similar style of storytelling/nostalgia themed songwriting as The Menzingers? (apart from The Gaslight Anthem, who are awesome)
The Mountain Goats though I wouldn't say it's nostalgic, just that it has that same narrative quality to it
The Smith Street Band. Although if you're from Melbourne (AUS), I'd assume you'd already know that lol
I’m really not sure why it’s taken me so long to check out The Flatliners but I finally did today and this is fantastic.
Stylistically, I would say the Flats and Smith Street fit. In terms of lyrical content that I think the Menz are going for you should check out The Loved Ones/Dave Hause, Social Distortion, Lucero, John Moreland, and Jason Isbell.
