I love Thick As Thieves partly because the backstory of the drummer getting in trouble for stealing sausage in Italy, and the fact that a friend of mine also got in trouble in Italy for stealing 10 years ago while studying abroad (although it wasn't exactly intentional, more of a misunderstanding), so every time I hear it I laugh at my friend being a dumbass.
That's the track i loved at first which fell off the most for me. Still a good tune though. This is still my AOTY so far even though Brand New, Manchester Orchestra and Kendrick have given the title their best shots.
Eh, either Midwestern States, Your Wild Years or After the Party could easily claim that title. Not that "The Bars" is a bad song, it still just hasn't clicked with me yet. I'll keep giving it a shot though. I feel like a bracket, March Madness-esque tournament needs to take place for The Menzingers like what was going on in the Taking back Sunday and Blink 182 threads. 5 albums warrants enough material to make this happen.
Fully agree. I would say BN is very close to taking it but I just love this record so much and every time I listen to it I find something new to connect with that is relevant to my life haha
Lookers or ATP is my fav with Tellin Lies and Midwestern States being very very close. Charlie's Army and Boy Blue just a tick beneath those as well.
The Bars is the only song on the record which I didn't like that much when it came out and still don't really. Almost everything else is gold for me.
Midwestern States, Lookers and After the Party are the top three. Closely followed by Your Wild Years. My wife's favourite is Black Mass so I'll throw that in the top five.
Listened again on my commute this morning after a month-ish hiatus. 2/3rds through the year, still AOTY. And that's saying something this year.
This, Brand New, Paramore and Manchester Orchestra are all fighting for my AOTY pick right now...and we still have the new Circa Survive and Julien Baker albums on the way sooo yeah. This year has really been something special.
So many bands and artists I love all meeting or exceeding my expectations this year. It's like the exact opposite of 2014.
This has been out for a while now.. how's everyone feeling after the new album rush settled? I really like this album and it really fills the void of what was missing in Rented World for me. It really feels like such an honest return to form. It's a party album, with bangers but with the reflective themes of those past relationships discussed in other albums and the struggles of hitting your thirties. I love the debut but feel it separate from the arc of Chamberlain Waits, On the Impossible Past and for me After The Party. I think that Lesson and Rented World have great songs but lack what I love about The Menzingers. Chamberlain Waits, OTIP and After The Party really just spoke to me and resonated with me at the moment in my life when they all came out.
I still adore this album. Whenever Tellin' Lies comes out I get so amped up and find myself listening to the entire album. It is so far sitting comfortably as my AOTY although Brand New and Manchester Orchestra have tried to take that spot.
Still feel like this album is great, but I don't love this as much as anything else they've done. I feel like there's a loose narrative running through these songs but overall it doesn't feel like a complete album like their other stuff does, more a collection of songs. And there's some killer stuff but idk. I also wish there was a more even division of Greg vs Tom songs
Still my favorite album of theirs by a long shot, but I haven't listened to it in a while. I really played it out for several months, so I think it'll be a while before I put it on regularly again.
The same thing happened to me with this album. From the release to late Spring, this was nonstop in my music rotation. I haven't come back to it since except for a song or two every so often. I'll be seeing them soon so I imagine it will be listened to frequently. Rented World is still my favorite album of theirs, though.
I listened to this a lot when it came out but took a break for a while due to loads of other albums coming out. I came back to it recently and I still love it. Defintely my second favourite album of theirs(behind OTIP)
Definitely my second favourite as well. OTIP, After the Party, Chamberlain Waits, Rented World, Lesson in the Abuse
Lookers, the title track, and telling lies might be the only things on here that come close to touching the strongest Chamberlain songs
Not in a million years. Midwestern states, bad Catholics, your wild years, after the party, livin...are all top tier Menzingers tracks.
