Yep! They just played a show in Columbus last month where they played it the new record in full before going to record Hopefully by the end of the year, but maybe next year
You might. It's got some catchier songs, Leo the other vocalist is much more prominent though. Unlike Menzos where there's "Tom songs" and "Greg songs" CWS usually have both Bobby and Leo singing on every track. Leo has improved a lot though he's less raw
I'll have to check out Captain, We're Sinking... haven't heard that one yet. But this album keeps getting better every time I hear it and since we're finally into Summer, I can only imagine I'll be playing it more. Definitely in my top 3 for EOTY at this point!
I'd be shocked if CWS challenges my top ten. There's gotta be a lot of growth for that to happen. Even then, I don't know. Two of my most anticipated haven't come out yet and if this is the worst National album ever it's still top ten of the year haha.
I can't make predictions because every year albums come out of nowhere and land in my top ten, so it could happen. I say that as someone who thinks TFIC is one of the most overrated "scene" albums in recent memory though.
The only album this year Id actually be shocked if it landed in my top ten is the Bleachers record. I'll listen to that one later today.
I don't even know what's going in my mid year top ten at this point. I'd say the only locks are probably Menzingers, ATL, and HNDRXX.
Perfume Genius, Emporer X, Cayetana, Kendrick, Menzingers, Mount Eerie are locks. That's 6. 7-32 are still competing for the last four haha.
Menz, Kendrick, Cloud Nothings, Oso Oso, Paramore, Creeper, Smith Street Band, Heart Attack Man, Sorority Noise, Flatliners, Run The Jewels, Tigers Jaw, Free Throw etc. I've really liked a lot of albums this year haha
Kendrick is the only one of those that might make mine. Of course, I also have the other Future album, Natalie Hemby, NFG, Teen Daze, G Perico, and Payroll Giovanni to deal with. That's just off the top of my head. I never got the hype around 2016 being an exceptional music year, but this one's certainly been great.
I will never understand contextualizing every release in an AOTY format. It literally just turned June. I also don't understand saying x, x, and x should make my top whatever. It almost sounds like albums will be given an objective pass due to previous attachments to the artist. There's every bit of chance your most anticipated record could be a major dissapointment, it's happened before. There's also every chance that half of your list could be made up of artists/releases that weren't on your radar when the year began. That happens to me every single year. I like talking about what's remaining in the year as much as the next person, these are just a few points that have always come off as odd to me.
It's been 16 years since the National released an album that wasn't one of the best of the year. I'm gonna go ahead and assume that this one doesn't break that trend.
That tour was incredible. My show also had The Swellers and Fake Problems on it. Also the show where they dedicated Chamberlain Waits to me and was the only time I ever saw it! They also covered Roots Radical, Bullet With Butterfly Wings & Are You There Maragaret as the encore.
Yeah mine had FP too. They did the latter two covers in Chicago: I lost my shit for the SP one and I was in a Resorations vine stage diving to it haha
'68 is pretty solidly my no. 1 atm but this is sitting at a pleasant no. 2. Obvs that could change over the course of the year tho
