I never saw them announce new tour dates but they're playing Bell's (Brewery) Eccentric Cafe here in Kalamazoo on a Friday. FREAKIN PSYCHED!
I was really excited until I remembered that Bell's will only do 21+ shows, which means I can't go. Of course when they're playing 10 minutes from my house I won't be able to attend. Ugh.
Ah man, that's such a bummer! You still have more than two months to get a fake that'll get you in though lol.
havent listened to this since it came out. i was in a horrible spot and listened to it a lot back then and its really hard now because it takes me right back there and its a little much to handle.
Totally understandable. Might be too soon, I've had a few records like that for me. I can go back to them now and have even made new memory connections to them but it takes time.
Yeah I've been in a similar situation with the same problems facing me and it just took some time and distance from that period to be able to revisit the music that I was listening to during those dark times. And now I find that music comforting more than anything. I'm excited for the day when I can listen to this without being taken to that place
This is a weird one for me - even though it came out in February, I was in Florida that week and as a result have associated this album really closely with the warm weather. I'm interested to see how it'll do for me in the fall.
There are a few records I still struggle with. Like Jimmy eat world- damages (broke up with my fiancé of 5 years and it's all I listened to during that time) literally didn't leave my room at my parents house for like a month straight and had that album on the entire time. Really hard to go back to it without thinking about it... Alright well on a brighter note I think I'm going to try and see them with captain we're sinking in Lancaster ha
This is probably my album of the year at the moment. Getting a lot more plays in the warm NJ weather this week.
Still prob my fav release of the year as well. My rankings have kinda shifted around, i think id put RW as my #1, but this would be tied with OTIP.
Yeah, this is my favorite of the album by far. It reminds me of what happened with the 1975 album last year in that it released in February but nothing really challenged it for the rest of the year.
I apologize if this observation was already made elsewhere in this thread... and maybe I'm late to the game picking up on this, but I'm wondering if the "sha la la la Jersey Girls" line in the chorus is a nod to Tom Wait's Jersey Girl, which does the same "sha la la la" part throughout the song? Again, I apologize if someone else noticed this like 1,000 posts ago
It has/is. Because this guy right here (points at self) was convinced since release that it was "Shine the light on Jersey Girls"
I'll be honest, that's how I was hearing it, too until every lyric site on the Internet seemed to tell me otherwise!
i wanna say Greg mentioned that it was indeed a reference in an interview but maybe im misremembering wild to think that this album and the Captain, We're Sinking album (which is incredible btw yall will like it if you like this album i think) are going to dominate my EOTY list
There's still Waxahatchee too. That group of friends could potentially have a fourth of my top 20. That's ridiculous.
ive always associated CWS, Menzos, and The Sidekicks together. maybe its because theyre all friends and also because Greg and Bobby are brothers and Toms younger brother was a drummer in The Sidekicks i think?
If you like The Menzingers I think you will like this Captain record. It's a lot more accessible than The Future is Cancelled and Leo's vocals are a lot less yelpy on this one
