Midway through the OG now - slower than I remembered. Not nearly as “complicated.” (Granted I was a wee kid). Still not entirely sure after all these years what the end game is lol

the cgi during the zion battle is incredible

the cgi during the burly brawl is a little ropey but it’s a very ambitious scene for the technology at the time

cinemawins’ headcanon for the burly brawls is that the Matrix itself is struggling to keep up with rendering all of the action in the simulation during the fights and i can get with that.

  6. If I hadn't seen the films and you showed me the battle for Zion side by side with any cgi heavy fight from this year and told me they were almost twenty years apart I wouldn't believe you

What’s lame about the Zion battle is that it’s entirely characters we barely know/care about. Really a major problem of the third movie in general. Morpheus doesn’t really do anything in the movie after they save Neo 20 minutes in

idk i love kid’s arc, it rules, maybe i’m more invested bc of his animatrix short

i genuinely care about everyone in zion after seeing them cave rave together tho

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

Kid's Animatrix short is legitimately so fucking good

    my second favourite behind Beyond

So I've come to the conclusion that both sequels are good. Even Revolutions

If there was like a way to "Remaster" the CGI in the sequels using modern tech, that would be pretty killer. Don't add anything, just make it all look better/more realistic. That's really all they need.

A lot of Zion battle scenes are giant miniatures. Between that movie and Return of the King, Hollywood was killing it with a mix of practical and digital effects in 2003.

  17. I was watching the behind the scenes on the DVD and I think they said Reloaded and Revolutions were filmed back to back. Wasn't LOTR like that as well? I don't recall any other instance of that unless it's like splitting a book into two movies (HP, Twilight, Hunger Games)

This trend was huge in the 2000s - trilogies were all the rage until cinematic universes became a thing.

Back to the Future Parts 2+3
    The LOTR trilogy
    The Matrix Reloaded & Revolutions
    Kill Bill Volumes 1+2
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest + At World's End
    The Hobbit trilogy
    Nymphomaniac Volumes 1+2
Batman V Superman + Justice League (kinda)
    Avengers: Infinity War+ Endgame
    Halloween Kills + Ends

  19. Got all these big blockbuster Hollywood franchises on that list ...and Nymphomaniac haha

Kill Bill doesn’t *technically* count because it was supposed to be one movie

True I was thinking that it was basically the production of 2 films... but no it was just one long movie that got cut in 2 midway through production

I imagine shooting back to back is a pretty good way to cut down on the budget for a series of movies.

The weird thing about the Matrix sequels is that they came out within 6 months of each other. And the Animatrix came out between them. And the video game. 2003 was massive

it is, plus it prevents the stars from aging significantly between movies and then having to explain why it’s the next day but everyone looks two years older lol
