This trailer had me go down a Jefferson Airplane rabbit hole on wikipedia and the fact that the band got their start playing a club called The Matrix is a nice touch.

Considering they seem to have done everything possible in their power to make him look like that, not surprising

Trailer was pretty sick. I thought Larry Fish was in this, kind of wild that they're just recasting him.

I really hope they don't spend too much time getting Neo up to speed/training....we've already seen that.

If that's true, that certainly is a choice.

If they needed Morpheus to be in this, then I don't understand why they wouldn't have just gotten Fishburne.

If they needed him to be the same age he was in the movies, then I don't understand why they wouldn't have just gotten Fishburne and used de-aging CGI.

If they need him to be a program, then I don't understand why they wouldn't have just gotten Fishburne, used de-aging CGI, and explained any oddities away as him being an imperfect program.

Just seems weird is all. It's Lawrence Fishburne. Get him in your movie, you know?

Maybe Lawrence F can't move like he used to, and CGI a stunt double didn't make as much sense?

It does seem odd they Have Keanu back as Neo and the actress for Trinity, but Fishbourne wasn’t brought back for his character.

If they needed a younger version of that character then re-casting is the correct decision, not using de-aging CGI, which still sucks pretty much every time it's used imo (see: Rogue One, The Mandalorian, etc.)

First, I don't it to sound like I'm criticizing or have an issue with the casting of Yahya, cause that is absolutely not the case. If they have to do the route of recasting, he's a good actor to choose.

But, it is still strange to me that they're okay with bringing back everyone but Fishburne. And the reason I bring up de-aging CGI is because at least to me, I've not seen any problems with it when Marvel uses it.

I do agree it's not great in the Star Wars movies, but I'm a little ignorant on whether it's done differently there as vs. in the Marvel films. Do both Star Wars and the MCU use doubles and superimpose CGI over them or does the MCU do it over the actual actors that they're de-aging? I have to imagine the process would work differently if they have the actual person on stage to work from. But I'm prepared to be wrong.

Was fishbourne asked back? Maybe he didn’t want to do it

He gave an interview when the film was first announced basically saying he was not asked to return

I agree that it’s a little odd on the surface but I am 100% sure that Lana has a reason why she wanted the other two back but recast Morpheus. (Whether it’s a good reason remains to be seen.)

Fishburne has said in interviews that he was not asked back and he doesn't know why, but he's ultimately okay with it.

I assume the reason Fishburne wasn't asked back is because the story requires a younger Morpheus and they didn't want to use the bad de-aging tech. I think they made the right call, and they cast the perfect actor in the role too.

I don’t agree, I think the best use of it was in The Irishman and even then it wasn’t perfect

I haven't seen The Irishman so I can't comment on that. Other than that, (shrugs)

All I know is all the usage of it I've seen in the MCU didn't look out of place to me at all or take me out of what I was watching. But that's me and I recognize I am not representative of the vast majority.

Although it is also amusing to me that a franchise that is primarily about technology and has previously pushed the envelope of CGI just to make certain things happen would shy away from a practice that is becoming fairly prevalent now.

I think de-aging always looks fucked, the Matrix could probably use that to their advantage but whatever

I don’t want to put words in Lana Wachowski’s mouth but I’d like to think it’s because she recognizes that just because a certain technology is becoming prevalent doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do.

Also there could be a plot reason for it that we don’t know about yet. I’m just glad we won’t be getting any embarrassing disasters like Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian or Tarkin and Leia in Rogue One.

Apparently Morpheus died in the game so they might follow that continuity.

Neo and trinity also die and they’re here. If they didn’t ask Fishburn back I’m sure there’s a reason ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Jesus, how the assassin just slid out that vent was disturbing haha.

Hopefully that isn’t canon as that’s also a shitty way for Morpheus to die.
