I've been lurking for a while and I really like the stuff you guys are posting. I don't know much about the genre beyond American Football but I'm afraid that this is a hole I could fall into. Could you recommend some important albums to start with, preferably with some vocals?
no probs! My favorites of those are probably This Town Needs Guns (TTNG) and Ghosts & Vodka. I'd also check out Tera Melos-- my first math rock band and a pretty good introduction to the genre imo. They only have vocals on their later stuff though.
i made a playlist that covers like, decades worth of tons of bands in the genre of consequence. i personally think it's a great entry point into the genre. put it on shuffle and go wild:
Shiiiit. Pneuma is one of (if not) my favorite albums of all time. Gotta take some time to listen to this.
i hear it in the brief vocal parts, it's the same sort of in the back along with a bunch of emo/post rocky stuff
Yeah there's pretty much no better way to get me to check out a band/album than to compare them to Pneuma-era MovMou Update: this is awesome!
Not that they're necessarily a math rock band, but im relistening to the Mars Volta's Deloused in the Comatorium in what feels like forever and got dam if this isnt a perfectly perfect record
i hope you guys are listening to the new Tera Melos album (Trash Generator) because it is really damn good, some of the most inspiring prog rock i've heard in a while, and the psychedelic pop sensibility is also spot on
My band just went to a studio and the intern there was in this band, which I really fuck with. Also a great chill dude.
