Damn. I guess I misunderstood what Shawn said when he said they have a new record done. Either way - I agree with @JRGComedy - kickstart it! They have a loyal fan base and I would easily throw $100 in towards the recording of a new album. Pretty sure a lot of their fans would (given perks and what not).
I interpreted it as they have the album written, but they have day jobs and live in different cities, and covid got threw a wrench in their plans of recording and/or releasing to coincide with the film release.
There is a Matches Discord server and Shawn is on it and has been answering some fan questions the past few days. https://discord.gg/QsF5qzb5
every time they repressed the first two albums on LP they had that 'aw shucks, it sold out? wowowow' reaction so yeah I think that would go a long way toward helping fund a new recording ...
So I mentioned the Kickstarter idea to Shawn in the Discord channel that was shared (that’s right - I am The Lobster) and he said the following: “The $ from y’all streaming the record is sitting there waiting to pay mixing and mastering engineers, so thanks for that— hopefully we’ll get to use it for that purpose sometime soon!“ Fingers crossed!
I bought E. Von Dahl on CD and I just want to give props to the band for taking “Say 18” off streaming lol
one of the reunion shows where they played the album in full, Shawn was so over that song on stage it was funny, he was apologizing for the lyrics and thought about skipping the track live, but played it anyway. I think that's included in the live album they put up on streaming platforms a few years back.
“A Band In Hope” finally clicked for me this week. It’s a little too uneven for me to rank it up with their first two, but Their City might be one of their biggest arrangement accomplishments and the guitar work is insane. Having From 24c and Clouds Crash right next to each other is tough, but the back half has some real gems on it.
Definitely their weakest record but still has some of their best songs to date. Love how weird it is too in it’s own right.
Yeah it’s weird for sure! I don’t really understand the point of Proctor Rd. yet either, but I’m happy to be enjoying the bulk of the album now!
Proctor Rd. is such a useless/forgettable track lol Even worse knowing it’s the final song to close out their last full length :(
I actually love all the tracks mentioned from ABIH thus far ha, Proctor Rd always had a cool mood to it to me even if it is criminally short, and Clouds Crash and From 24C are maybe my fav songs on the record… tbh where the album tests my patience a bit is the run of Between Halloweens thru Future Tense. I dig Between Halloweens and Future Tense quite a bit, but I’ve just never clicked with If I Were You much at all and placing all three back to back to back really drags the record down for me in the final stretch, and it makes it feel samey in a way the rest of the record really bucked up to that point.
somebody listen to the new Fall Out Boy song "Hold Me Like a Grudge" and tell me it doesn't remind you a little bit of "Clumsy Heart" .... (just the guitars mainly)
What's everyone think of Album 4? Finally got around to digging into it and while I think it's cool that they released it, only "Wicked Walk" and "Like Yesterday" really stick out as measuring up to any of their older material. Not sure what happened, but it seems like the pop punk hooks disappeared after Decomposer.
