yeah, I wish I liked it more. I'm just not interested in a concise, pop-accessible version of The Mars Volta. I want more weird, not less
Self-titled is great. I only listen to that one, De-Loused, and Frances. The rest I couldn't care less about.
I may need to go back and listen to some of the others again, I'd likely feel differently now, but I found them either insufferable or forgettable at the time.
Hot Take: I like Goliath, but it feels very much like a more commercially palatable version of their sound. I feel like that only makes sense in my head though because it's not really commercial at all
Last album was eh. I got more mileage out of the rework so perhaps the songs were there, I just didn’t vibe with the original version that much.
Amputecture and Goliath are unreal. Oct and Noct are solid. The only one that doesn’t hit for me is the s/t, unfortunately. I also liked the rework more for whatever reason
Haven’t listened to most of their stuff in a while, but De-Loused and Frances are the albums from them that have always done it for me, although I do really enjoy aspects of he following four albums. The only album of theirs I haven’t gotten into was the self-titled. I gotta revisit it though. I think I’ve only listened to it once. Gonna need to run through their discography soon
Been listening to their discography all day. De-Loused and Frances still remain as my top two favorite albums from them, then I would lump Amputechture, Bedlam, and Octahedron all together as albums that could honestly go in any order. Noctourniquet is pretty easily my least favorite album from them. I've been very pleasantly surprised by the self-titled. I'm just about finished with it and I'm way more into it than I was on my first listen a couple years ago (looks like I only listened to it once before). Super good stuff on here and very groovy. Could see it rising in my ranking over time, but for now would place it ahead of only Noctourniquet. Excellent discography, no real misses, though Noctourniquet is the only album I would say has any blemishes.
Noctourniquet has become one of my favorites over the years. It has this weird dystopian vibe that I can’t get enough of. Malkin jewel, in absentia, and the closing track especially.
I used to really enjoy that album a few years ago so perhaps it comes back around for me. Oddly enough, I enjoy the first four songs, but I feel like it starts becoming inconsistent from there, starting with The Malkin Jewel
Ahhhh the Malkin jewel has to be one of my favorite Volta songs. It’s just so deranged. I like the opening track but they premiered it live and it’s way better in that setting. Not all synthy just crunchy ass guitars
I like Noctourniquet but didn't like Lapochka at first. When I saw them during that tour it was my favourite in the set. It made me appreciate the song a lot more.
I don't really follow these guys, so my bad if it's old news, but the Omar and Cedric documentary hits digital on January 10th.
Here's the listing, in case they try to make a liar out of me on January 10th. lol Omar and Cedric: If This Ever Gets Weird iTunes
