was listening to a pod with keeley davis from ATDI that was recorded fairly recently and he was under the impression he still thinks TMV is an active priority for Omar/Cedric. idk if it was recorded shortly before Juan’s accident or after (it seems hard to imagine them proceeding without him), but it sounds like they’re still planning on it. and, as much as it would suck, they have changed lineups quite a bit in the past
Juan wasn’t even going to be in the reunion at one point. Believe it was gonna be Eva Gardner or they at least wanted her
Juan was on the Peer Pleasure Podcast and mentioned that he "heard" that TMV is working together again and he was the one that said he thought Eva was on bass. From what it seems, the current iteration of TMV is: Cedric Omar Deantoni Marcel Eva
i guess she was the original bassist, so it makes sense. was holding out hope for theodore again, especially since it doesn't seem like QOTSA is "currently" active
Things obviously can change, and who knows if this is just the studio band and the live band is different, it's up in the air. As always "The Mars Volta is Omar and Cedric" so we will see what happens
To be fair, they are the only ones who make the music and write the lyrics, as well as being the only ones who were on the first and last album. That being said, I think it's more fair to be like... "Cedric and Omar are TMV" but "The TMV live performance group is...."
what do you mean by "make the music?" juan and marcel recorded on every album dating back to frances.
I mean songwriting I suppose, Omar writes all the music and Cedric all the lyrics. From what I understand, the rest of the band plays what Omar wrote, of course adding their own flair
right. i still feel like juan's fretless and marcel's multi-instrumentation are pretty integral to the band's sound, though. a lot of bands have members that don't contribute to songwriting that are still big parts of the band
nah. he played the most on amputechture and goliath, i think. frances the mute and de-loused it's only one track each. he isn't on noctourntiquet at all. not sure about octahedron
yeah. he was definitely a member for a bit. but not as long or as involved as juan or marcel, or even ikey really. but for good reason obviously, he was pretty busy haha
Whatever happened to Thomas Pridgen? He killed it on Bedlam and then was just kinda gone I tend to agree TMV is Omar and Cedric because a lot of the rest has been a rotating cast
he’s kind of a dick, from what i’ve read it also isn’t really a rotating cast. they’ve just gone through drummers hah. like i said, two of the guys have been with the band 15 years and for five albums
