some of these songs are still very dense with instrumentation for sure its cedrics vocal melodies here that are going to have to grow more memorable for me
weirdly his thin multitracked voice against these instrumentals occasionally reminds me of.....of montreal?
Hasnt left my earholes. Also been listening to Omar’s more recent output, namely the 2016 albums like Corazones and Umbrella Mistress
Pressing play now with good headphones and hitting the vape hardddd. Don’t remember the singles—only listened once or twice. So hyped.
No Case Gain is such an ear worm. Couple of standout moments so far but I’m still waiting on that weirdness y’all mentioned. So far it’s funky. I’m enjoying it though I will say I wish they put a bit less gloss on Cedric’s voice throughout.
Yes I can fuck with the spoken word part in Collapsible Shoulders. The more incomprehensible the lyrics are, the better
damn someone really messed up this release. unless they dropped it early as a way to combat the leak, but I feel like they would have announced it right? wild
Wow. End of the album is sick. The Requisition is stellar. Weird complaint because this album is created with the intention of keeping everything concise and concentrated, but yeah, I can’t help but miss their prolonged jam sessions. I don’t think it’s all “weird” like people in here described, but it’s definitely psychedelic and there are some unpredictable moments especially in the second half. Another thing I do miss about the early Volta is it could get beautifully chaotic. At times the music seemed like it could all fall apart at any moment but they somehow kept it controlled. This album is definitely less chaotic, more direct, as they described it in interviews, while still keeping that meticulous arrangement of the old stuff. anyway great first listen and now goodnight everyone lol.
This album is what childhood me who bought Frances the Mute just for The Widow wanted that to be haha
Haha, I love all TMV but I remember loving The Widow so much and wondering why everyone seemed to have such a problem with it, so I am not surprised that I absolutely love this album.
This is good. I must admit that the first half is not as strong as the second half. It sounds like they build up to An amazing end , especially those last 3 songs. Also, No Case Gain might be my favourite so far.
I am absolutely LOVING this so far. For lack of a better word, I appreciate that it's 'reigned' in a little bit. As always there s is a lot going on, but there's more breathing room I guess between the layers and it sounds more thought out and planned rather than just chaotic? Not that i don't like their other albums, but these include all their weirdness but have more structure and form. Blank Condolences and No case gain are 2 stand outs after a first spin. Also not to be stereotypical for a fan of theirs, but I can't wait to take a trip to space later and give this another listen with head phones. I think it'll melt my brain and I'll find so many hidden layers.
Damn, this is SO good. Like someone else said, after a few listens this is my favorite thing they've done since Amputecture. RYM is having an absolute meltdown over this which I'm finding pretty hilarious.
I fucking love this. Some mid-period (say Satanic Satanist through Evil Friends) Portugal. The Man vibes for sure. And some of the proggy elements of Rx Bandits (like on Mandala, especially the back half, and some of the later tracks on Battle). My only complaint is that I wish I had this to jam all summer.
Nice... It sold out here before I was even aware they were on tour. I was so close to buying secondary market tickets then I realized I already had a show that night (Clutch) so I'm glad I didn't as I really want to go to that show too and that was a $40/ticket vs $125-$150 I was going to shell out for Mars Volta. I hope you have a blast. It'll be interesting to see what kind of setlist they put together now that the album is out in full.
I cannot believe nor could I tell you why I love collapsible shoulder so much. It just works extremely well after equus (speaking of which, the keys in the second half of that song are so good it hurts) i honestly don’t think I could be happier about a new tmv album. personally worth the wait.
