This rules so far. Honestly, this is close to what I expected Octo to sound like when they were calling it their "pop album".

Loved the lyrical nod to faminpulse on Cue The Sun

    I just need a vinyl pre-order ASAP

Second listen this morning. I love it. Definitely a slow burn of an album, don’t expect any fast paced Volta shit shows, it’s all about mood

This isn't really the Volta i gravitate towards but it's interesting. Definitely left me wanting to spin it again.

While this definitely isn't a total departure from the self-titled, I agree with others' comments about it getting much weirder and imo more interesting. I feel like they found a good balance, my initial impressions were very positive.

listening now. very glad to hear the return of Latin sounds and the experimentation. I feel like after digging my feet into more Latin music from the 70's-80's last year I have a better appreciation of TMV's influences.

I'll probs only listen to this once before the official release, feel sorta bad about checking out a leak before it's even been announced

    Anyone mind DMing a link?

So much nostalgia for the Comatorium days.

I'd love to hear this too and will for sure buy when it goes up for preorder (own all the LPs already). Liking the descriptions so far... it wouldn't take that much more weirdness or experimentation from S/T to get me a lot more excited.

  12. Think I’ll wait until April, don’t want the thread to die a week from now if everyone already got to listen to it lol

Listened to this on my morning commute today, in the rainy/foggy weather, which was quite a fitting scenario.

I think it does this album a bit of a disservice to try and compare it to a previous album, it definitely stands alone as it's own thing. It definitely feels like the same iteration of the band that made the self titled album, but takes more musically from the acoustic reimaging of the self titled than the album itself. The sax definitely feels like Frances/Amp era sax, so I wouldn't be surprised at all to hear if Adrian is back in the fold.

The album is really cool, it's psychedelic, it's groovy and vibey and fills a whole new space for the band. Unless I missed a moment, the entire album is one seamless listen, and while it's 18 tracks, many of them are part of other tracks and I wouldn't be surprised if the actual track list from the band is more like 8-10 "songs" with parts broken out as sub-tracks like Cygunus, Cassandra and Miranda. Self titled is much more structured around a track list of songs that stand alone, whereas this really seems to work as a singular listen, not sure what they would do for a "single" here.

I really like it on first listen, though I did find it to get kinda same-y and blend together after a while, not necessarily a bad thing but after one listen I find myself hoping there was a bit more diversity throughout. I know people are saying that it gets weird, but I am not sure I would fully agree, at least not in the way that TMV has previously been "weird." This is weird in a different way, you aren't getting any insane musical moments or sections, but definitely more sound manipulation weirdness and effects and that sort of thing.

All in all, absolutely a strong entry to their catalog and I'll be listening to this a ton this year and beyond

Don’t want to over listen so I’m revisiting Omar’s solo stuff. A lot of his 2012 and 2016 albums kinda carry a similar vibe.

I don't know if it's the leak but I don't know if I love the production on this. It feels kind of thin/tooo echoey

I'm still only a quarter way through, it's pretty tight though
