I’d rather see Qui Gon again. He’s easily one of the most interesting characters left to explore, especially when it comes to his relationship with the Jedi Council and its doctrine
I guess I just want there to be a Darth Vader movie someday and thought him crossing paths with Maul in it would be cool. But, all the big Maul stuff has been called dibs on by cartoons, including one where Maul’s the title character. Oh well. They’d probably use some kinda stupid AI for the voice instead of casting a voice actor who could do it convincingly anyways.
electric's sister Jenny, apparently she's actually in the movie there would be no way for me to know this
so much of that ground is also covered by books and comics too. i generally don't like 1:1 adaptations of existing media (especially since some stories work better in printed form), but some of the stuff from the recent few runs of Vader comics would've been cool to see on screen.
Ok well, I’m still gonna say that whoever Mitch plays in Tomorrow War is my favorite Electric State character. And also. If he voiced buff Jabba Jr, maybe I would’ve forgiven the character.
I have some online comic acquaintances who really love the comics, especially the Soule stuff and Vader stuff. But, I kinda refuse to read a comic where the main characters are likenesses of actors in movies, lol. Just too distracting to me. I tend to want my Star Wars to be a cinematic experience. (I’ll eventually get into Aphra, though, I think.) Seems like the comics bridge the original trilogy so well that it’d be tricky to fit a movie there. But, that period between trilogies is pretty wide open. Only problem is, with Filoni in charge, he’d toss in a bunch of cartoon characters I don’t care about.
Soule is a great writer. kinda wish they'd let him write a script if he'd want to. my partner really liked most of the Aphra stuff (although apparently the most recent run wasn't as good). also heard great things about Adam Christopher's Master of Evil novel. kind of a gothic horror story taking some elements from the Vader comics and having other characters reckon with their proximity to him. filling in gaps with written media is a double-edged sword, at least for canon material. on one hand, it can left you go further into elements from existing film and TV and spin off new adjacent plots or allow for more nuanced character development. it's also infinitely cheaper than the production costs associated with filmed material, so it can be done pretty quickly and if folks don't mind the shift between mediums, you'll still get some good stories. on the other hand, to your point, it's not everyone's cup of tea/could be considered too much effort, and it's felt more like the default for some of the more interesting SW stories recently, to the point where you wonder why some stories are just relegated to written media while less-exciting ones get more screentime. idk if i'd be excited by a full-fledged Vader movie (especially given how ubiquitous the character is with the franchise), but something on screen exploring a character's psyche the way some of his written material has could be refreshing (even if i don't see it happening anytime soon).
I don't know if they'd ever do a live action Maul thing again, but if they do there is a 0% chance anyone other than Sam Witwer does it at this point
Doing comics with Luke, etc, makes sense to me (even though it’s nothing I personally have interest in) because like. Unless you give in and recast, or do the grotesque digital shit they’ve done, that stuff isn’t happening in a new movie. The reason I specifically want Vader is, like, they’re not gonna stop making shit. And, he’s such a cool character and visual. And also, there’s a magic to how you can just put a guy in a costume that looks like the one they had back then, and it immediately feels appropriately quaint, like you’re back in ‘77-‘83. Maybe they could make a Lando movie (not show; I don’t need any more Disney+ slop; put it on a big screen). Bring back Donald Glover, even though Solo was bad. And have him cross paths with Vader (unless it doesn’t work for dumb extended universe reasons), since that wouldn’t stretch the movies in annoying ways.
I meant Vader’s voice. If Vader is in the Maul cartoon, how do they handle it? Voice actor performance, or more digital James Earl Jones?
Oh gotcha. At some point they're gonna have to either write new stories with new characters or get less precious about recasting. How Sebastian Stan didn't get cast as Luke Skywalker still blows my mind.
iirc, he didn't have any dialogue during the Maul show which i think worked in the character's favor (made him a more intimidating presence). otherwise it'd probably be a different voice actor if they did it again (or that's me coping and hoping they don't do AI JEJ voice again).
My preference is mostly on the “new characters” end of the spectrum. Like, Mandalorian shit didn’t need Luke to show up, lol. It’s ok to move forward. Eventually something post Rise of Skywalker could surely be made. (And/or whatever James Mangold had in mind for the distant past.) But, the precedent is already there. So I’m gonna keep making an exception and wanting more Vader, since that’s so easy to pull off, lol. Could even do it on a smaller-for-Star-Wars budget at under 120 mins, and still end up with something creatively neat that also does the cynical profit shit they’d want.
Well I thought this movie was actually a lot of fun, I enjoyed it significantly more than I thought I would. Super action-packed and I really liked seeing the new locations and especially the monsters, the creature design and puppetry was great (when is the last time a live action non-muppet property had this level of usage of puppets?) It definitely felt totally disconnected from the show but I thought that worked to its advantage; I can see a lot of people in here shitting on it for the "glup shitto-ness" of it but I actually thought it struck an okay balance, I liked seeing what Zeb is up to and I feel like that was kind of the extent of it? I expected more shoehorned references from Filoni actually but I'm struggling to think of more besides Rotta the Hutt who I definitely agree was bad... the character had potential but White's performance was distractingly bad Overall solid addition to the canon for me
