While we're talking about Star Wars lingo i just think it's really important people know that the genre of music played in the Cantina is called Jizz
I listen to an X-Men podcast that’ll do several hour deep dives on minor supporting characters (though it’s truthfully the tangents and related themes those conversations lead to that keep me listening; my ass isn’t remembering half the lore that gets discussed, lol). So, I’m not hating on people having deep cut “blorbos” that people are into. The appeal of the “Glup Shitto” meme and its utility in these conversations is, sometimes these properties with deep “fandom” get so insular with its fanservice and lore that it loses track of being appealing to the average person. I forget how Morrison worded it in their pitch document for New X-Men, critiquing the line at the time… an infected ingrown toenail maybe? Elsewhere in the comics space, this sometimes is called “comics about comics.” I’d say this is directly related to the whole higher standards thing. Obviously you can have a creative who knows a lot of lore and can weave deep cuts into a movie or whatever in a way that’s accessible, well crafted, entertaining, etc. But, especially when the creatives themselves are “fans” first and foremost, it’s easy to get so, uh… “Wookiepedia”-brained that playing with action figures trumps making a good movie. It becomes Star Wars about Star Wars and nothing else.
Just earlier I was musing on if it'd be necessary to see the show to enjoy the film and I'm wondering if everyone else was asking the same question.
Mandalorian and Grogu First Reactions: Star Wars Movie Dazzles EDIT: the headline got changed after the fact… VERY mixed reactions
Looks stinky people think it’s fine to stinky. Will be the first Star Wars movie that I’m alive and won’t see in theatre
just about what i expected, tbh. not too bothered about the reception at the end of the day, but we'll see how i feel afterwards.
This isn't me trying to defend this film because I really don't care and probably won't see it, but for the sake of accuracy I feel the need to point out there were positive takes Phantoms did not select from that article. This is in literature called an "unreliable narrator".
That’s fair, my point was more that if even the initial reactions, which usually skew more positive than actual reviews, contain many that are so mixed/negative, to me it wasn’t a great sign. I still hope I enjoy this more than I’m expecting
I don't know about "ever", but I haven't even watched the whole first season. It's not a priority to me.
