Season 1 is 5 years after Return of the Jedi. They say there was a couple years between season 2 and 3. Most people think we're currently at about 9 years post Return of the Jedi. Which would mean we're about 20-25 years prior to The Force Awakens.
I am highly doubtful in years passing. I know JF said it, but I don’t think that has been confirmed anywhere else yet.
Finale was solid with some cool action, but no real surprises or stakes. Overall mixed season. I figured Din was already the de facto guardian of Grogu, or at least it's implied by events of previous seasons and the fact that he's been taking care of lil guy for this long. That ending didn't hit for me like I'm sure it was intended. I feel like we didn't get enough closure for the arc of them taking back Mandalore and Bo Katan uniting the Madalorians. Also, I guess the dark saber isn't a big deal after all?
I do think the dark saber being gone is good. It’s kind of silly for a ruler to be decided by who is holding a specific laser sword and getting it in the “right” way. As for closing the Mandalore arc, they said earlier in the season that the forge there was the heart or whatever of the planet. So ending with relighting it symbolizes more than just that forge. I guess they are still going to follow Bo and now she doesn’t have to worry about getting killed for the dark saber and a quick coup. The ending didn’t hit hard for me, but I do like the idea of Din and Grogu just hanging out after constantly being chased and such for however long. And it leaves the door wide open for them to send them on any adventure they can think of. Ultimately, it will be Thrawn. But if the movie is 6-7 years out. I think we can get two seasons of fun adventures before heading down that path.
I'm cool with them getting rid of the dark saber because it's ultimately insignificant and Bo leading the Mandalorians. Just wish those things were acknowledged in some way and not left for us to assume. I also still don't know what the signigicance of the Mythosaur is other than it's revered by the Mandalorians. I do like the slate sort of being wiped for Din and Grogu. Looking forward to see more teacher-apprentice stuff between them.
I think Bo lighting it shows she is in charge. Mythosaur is clearly future stuff as Grogu connected with it. They will be back to it.
Some thoughts: - I am also fine with the Darksaber being destroyed, BUT, the way it was destroyed felt pathetic. This is a weapon powerful enough that an entire religion based around weapons decided it was their symbol of leadership, and Gideon snaps it like a breadstick? - I like the way they wrapped things up this season, it feels like a soft reset so the next arc can at least BEGIN with more standard Din/Grogu adventures. - Was sort of disappointed not to see Boba Fett even in a fan service cameo for 30 seconds
Great finale, 90% great season. Some things feel unresolved but that’s the TV show of it all. Bring on Ashoka!
His quote is worded very oddly. I don’t think it’s super clear. Each season could easily happen within a week or so. Not sure how the show couldn’t be within a year. Not that much happens. The time between s2 and 3 would clarify a lot for me.
The Friends We Met Along The Way I like that theory a lot, too, actually. tons of other Jewish/Exodus/Biblical connections throughout this season/Mandalorian lore in general that SWE (and all the other reviewers I follow) have brought up throughout.
got a lot more of that guitar sound this season, kind of took me out because this show is a very different vibe than that movie.
