This episode had a lot a weird shit in it, which I usually like… but very little of it worked for me. Also they resolved the dark saber issue in the easiest way possible.
I'm trying not to take this show too seriously. Whenever i do, i enjoy it less. It's kind of silly, but It's really nice to explore the star wars universe. I've definitely got gripes here and there, but i try and lay that aside for the most part. This episode took some extra effort, though. Did anybody else remember hearing reports of a Bo Katan spinoff series? I felt like there was a lot of talk about that sometime last year, but that seems to have gone dark. This show has a completely different vibe than Andor. I thought Andor was fantastic writing and acting. Both of those things are incredibly light for this show and it's obvious they're going more for "wow" factor with effects and traversing through the universe. I'm here for both, but definitely prefer content that's a little more solid on the foundational aspects like Andor.
Basically, a special item that has a sentience enough to have a “rightful” owner that doesn’t always have to do with who is physically holding it. In this case it was a certain wand. The end of the final battle was decided on by the logic that one of them physically had the wand, but the other had “won” it’s allegiance earlier. It’s a little different in how it plays out, but i instantly thought of it watching the scene in Mando. I dunno. Shows can be different and all, but when we have stuff like Rebels which was made for kids but is also very much for adults, I find it kind of a letdown if a SW show can’t do it. Unless it’s stuff like that animated high republic show that’s clearly for toddlers haha
Well, either way, it feels like a missed opportunity for this show. It was established as a central point of conflict in the season 2 finale and was a source of underlying tension all of this season. Now it just suddenly isn't.
Has a B2 battle droid ever been shown running before? That animation looked pretty afwul and seemed a bit gravity-defying.
Yup. Season 2 ends with the set up of Din vs. Bo and Grogu being trained and both get resolved in the simplest way possible haha
I like the adventure-of-the-week nature of the show, it oftentimes feels like live-action Clone Wars in a good way. This season doesn't feel like they've quite nailed how to mesh that with the overarching plot as well as they have in the first two.
I disagree on that setting up Bo vs Din. Grogu going away to get trained, of course. But I didn’t think for a second she’d turn on Din.
I have a hard time watching that and thinking they weren't leading the audience to believe some version of that show down was going to happen. That was quelled a little bit by their interactions in this season prior to this episode, but still, my sense from that season two ending was that she would challenge him at some point.
Eh. What can I say? I didn’t consider it a legit option. I guess potential tension, but never that she would become a “bad guy” or have to defeat Mando. I can see how someone could think that, but I never did.
I also have zero knowledge of the character outside of this show so I have no idea if that’s something her personality would even allow. I just took it as Bo felt slighted that he wound up with the dark saber and she felt she was the rightful owner. If anything it was going to be a reluctant choice to get it from Din. Either way, that’s over now lol. More time for an Obama cameo next week.
I was doubtful they would actually have them fight too, but in that moment I never felt it was off the table. Personally, I thought it would go one of two ways as this season has gone on. A) Bo would tame the Mythosaur and that would supersede the authority of the saber or B) Din losing a rematch to Gideon or in a heel turn from the Armorer and then Bo coming to the rescue, defeating whoever beat him to reclaim it. I mean, we pretty much got scenario B, but it landed like a lead balloon. The creature that defeated Din wasn't after the darksaber or the power it holds so Bo grabbing it feels more like dumb luck. Plus it felt odd that all these other Mandos would suddenly be so accepting of her being the one to wield it. Literally, seconds before that they were saying Din isn't a real Mandalorian and then they suddenly believe him and accept Bo holding the saber again.
Characters standing around talking in shot/reverse shot is probably the most Lucas thing ever. Plus the whole him not being dead thing. Just a terrible tweet on all accounts.
Honestly I got some attack of the clones vibes during this one and think George lucas would love this one lol But I'm ready for shit to progress. Get me back to mandalore.
