hmmm...I can see that. I think the tone switch up in his voice when he says it, where it becomes almost sarcastic sounding and cruel for the sake of being cruel, always made me feel like it was part of the conflict in him rising to the top again and the “dark side” coming out as he realizes he’s having trouble convincing him to join her.
There is nothing to debate. Rian wrote TLJ so that Rey was a nobody because her story is infinitely more powerful that way (Kylo doesn’t even tell Rey her parents were nobodies, she realizes it all on her own). JJ then wasn’t happy about that and retconned it away just so he could bring Palpatine back and make Rey another member of an Important Family. That’s what happened.
Why would they even set out to make a trilogy without a prior agreed-upon plan of where they were generally going with it? It’s like you’re just asking for it to be a mess
Are you trying to tell me a multi billionaire dollar franchise was just winging it from film to film and didn’t have set story in place prior to filming the trilogy?! I don’t believe.
Never would have happened if Tolkien wrote the sequel trilogy. Lucasfilm just has no idea what it’s doing.
Star Wars as a franchise is still one of the best. I can’t wait for the LEGO Skywalker Saga (Deluxe Edition with a Mandalorian character pack)
Well, remember that Kylo Ren said, earlier in the film, “let the past die; kill it if you have to.” The bitterness in his voice would’ve been directed towards the past generation that has betrayed both him & Rey, not towards Rey herself.
I really liked this idea, especially reinforced by the kid who Force-grabs his broom, but then they just sort of tossed it aside. I also suspected her phrasing of “They were nobody” could have been deliberate. She says “nobody” instead of “nobodies” so I thought maybe she was born directly from the Force similar to Anakin. That would explain why she didn’t remember her parents, why she saw only her own repeated reflection in the cave in TLJ, and her strange connection to Kylo (possibly via Anakin). It could have also been an explanation for how she was able to pick up so many Force techniques without even knowing they exist, as if she was borrowing the powers of Force users before her...... But no, it’s just because she’s a Palpatine.
one of the few things I wanted was for her premonition of a confrontation with the knights of ren that they planted to actually play out and be interesting - and that makes me angry. the movies really dont go together at all except for having the same characters. after tlj I thought for sure theyd do a clone wars type show between it and tros. im guessing theyd discussed something like that but Im doubting theyll do it now.
the fanfic script of force awakens beginning with vader’s hand floating through space was better than what we got lol
I like Force Awakens tho tbh. It’s a solid movie that serves as a great soft re-launch of the franchise. Rian Johnson then took that foundation and built something wonderful on top of it. And then JJ came back, smashed it to pieces, and put it back together with scotch tape and bubblegum.
Remember reading that Rian Johnson intentionally didn’t use the Knights of Ren in the Snoke throne room scene, ‘cause he figured Kylo & the Knights would have too much of a relationship for the Knights to become faceless, disposable minions. Sure glad JJ Abrams decided to explore that dynamic he himself set up, instead of, y’know, sidelining the Knights so he could play with Palpatine & Sith cultists & a meaner replacement for Hux & a tankful of Snokes.
force awakens was fine when we saw it but it was made worse seeing the rest of the franchise. TLJ stands alone kind of unscathed from the rest.
The Force Awakens was the peak of the sequel trilogy. #2 Star Wars film right behind Empire. You can’t beat Harrison Ford as Han Solo. Also that snowy lightsaber duel.
The rough treatment for DotF is a lot better than what we got. It at least wasn’t full of random decisions.
