Rey’s parents selling Rey to protect is one of the dumbest things in all of Star Wars. Haha honestly feel bad for Adam Driver that he had to say that line. “They sold you to protect you.” Just idiotic, all because they wanted to kill the idea of Rey nobody to make her a Palpatine for no real reason. god that movies sucks so much ass
Yeah Dooku says it in Episode 2 (although Obi-wan says he was Yoda’s apprentice in Empire and we all know how that turned out, so)
I’ll never forget seeing Episode 2 in the theater and, at age 12, laughing my ass off at Yoda fighting with a lightsaber. Even at that age I realized how ridiculous that scene was on some level. Obviously it wasn’t until years later that I grasped how thematically wrong it is for Yoda to fight with a lightsaber, how it totally contradicts the entire idea of Yoda as a character from the original trilogy. But even at the time I found it funny instead of badass or whatever it’s supposed to be.
I had a feeling that’s what they were going to do so I had mentally prepared myself and was open to the choice, but even as it was happening I knew it was not going to be popular. The reason I was ok with her being a Palpatine is that’s what would challenge her. She feels confident in her place as a Jedi/hero in this story after TLJ and is then confronted with the idea that she’s not actually meant to be the hero. Her question she needs to answer is “What do you do when everyone (including herself at times) is telling you the dark side is your destiny, but that’s not what you want.” I think making her a Palpatine helps boost that idea, but it was not done/explained in a very elegant way so totally understand the dislike for it.
Kept coming back to read details this season after being vehemently booed offstage for a crap internet article. It turned out it was entirely false but at the same time I was happy to be turned off of another Star Wars thread. Cause this one is insufferable.
I remember busting my ass to unlock Sebulba in Star Wars Episode I Racer back in the day. I can relate to this.
I would argue Rey never felt confident about being a Jedi/hero. I don’t think we ever really see that.
I always thought that Belated Media guy's prequel re-write videos were really good. He had some absolutely excellent ideas to improve those movies.
Off the top of my head my first fix would be never seeing Anakin as a kid and Maul being the villain the entire time, no Dooku.
