Maybe I'm misunderstanding your problem with Boba being alive then.

yeah ok I edited my post now

the plot points having boba fett show up here are really weak especially now that I’m thinking harder about it

Boba didn’t show up for no reason. He had a mission to get his suit from Din and made a pact with him to protect Grogu in exchange for the armor. Once Din had Boba’s armor it was natural and logical for Boba to retrieve it. Forcing the character not to do that would not be honest story telling. It was a natural progression.

@oakhurst have you read between the lines and figure out the answer to this?

My problem with Boba is two-fold.

Dead characters should stay dead and "We didn't physically see the x's over his eyes so he's not actually dead and we're free to bring him back" is a lazy trope that hurts *good* writing because now you have to actually waste time showing the actual death instead of leaving stuff implied and spending your time elsewhere (early season GOT spoilers: We didn't have to see Syrio die, for example. We could just believe the story when they told us he was dead and get to have fun imagining the heroic blaze of glory he went down in instead of adding the extra 5-10 minutes of fruitless fighting that would've been needed to give his death justice )

Secondly and unrelatedly, if you've got this big reveal lined up at the end its far more exciting and interesting if you have already brought back other new characters for fan servicey reasons, because it feels like just more fan service -- by snacking on sweets before the slice of cake at the end feels less special. So even if Boba *weren't* dead, bringing him back would've still felt like the wrong move.

Well to answer his questions Vanth explains he got the armor from Jawas. As for why Boba waited it hasn’t been explained yet. Could be that he wanted to wait until an actual mandalorian had it so he could prove to him that his mandalorian code was indeed in the armor, which is what he revealed to Din right after putting on the suit.

"lol this armor you got is actually the armor of a guy who we saw get eaten by a worm but it turns out he isn't actually dead and so he needs to bring it back" is not natural progression

the same exact story could've been told if instead of Boba Fett showing up in Slave 1, a ex-Mandalorian bounty hunter named Avon Dooks showed up in his own ship.

the same exact story could not have been told if Jedi Master Avon Dooks showed up to take Gorgu

Well when and if they do decide to explain it I do hope it’s good

now I’m trying to remember if there was a piece of his armor in the Jawa wagon in season 1 episode 2. I seem to remember something.

You say this as if Mando having Boba’s armor was necessary in the first place lol. It wasn’t. They wrote that in specifically for the purpose of having a reason for Boba to show up

Meh, Darth Maul surviving created one of the greatest characters in Star Wars history, and some of the greatest arcs the franchise owns. I'll grant you that some Dead characters should stay dead i.e. Mace Windu shouldn't come back now just because Boba is back...so i guess i agree with your premise and just don't mind if it if i feel it pays off. This didn't bother me as much, but i can see your point.

I still got a pretty big wow factor out of Luke coming back so maybe I'm just an easier audience to write for haha. The little sweet i got before the cake didn't diminish the cake for me, though it did make me appreciate the snack a bit more because up until now, Boba had been kinda lame in my mind. So kinda just a to each their own here i guess.

Boba showed up "for no reason" because he was dead. There's no reason to undo his death except for gratuitous fan service.

Of course everything that followed the flawed starting point of "Boba Fett is still alive (and also somehow like 12 years older than he should be???)" made logical sense. The point is that it was an illogical thing to happen from the beginning.

Also I would argue that it was pointless gratuitous fan service to send Din back to Tattooine when there are literally thousands of other planets in this galaxy he could have gone to searching for another Mandalorian. Show us some new planets! But the galaxy must be as small as possible at all times, so.

  12. I feel like all of these arguments can be applied to all franchises, it just depends on what you like and choose to defend

All franchises do dumb illogical things, yes, that doesn't excuse any one franchise from doing them though. And it also doesn't invalidate the criticism either. Especially when Star Wars has been one of the more notable examples of this kind of thing, especially in the Disney era.

Yes you are lol you're saying "I feel like all franchises do this" as if that makes it ok

  16. I didn't say it made it okay!

Than I truly don't understand what the purpose of that post was as everyone knows that other franchises do dumb things and nobody was denying that. This is a thread about a Star Wars show so we're specifically talking about this show and franchise, not any others.

It's wild to me that Star Wars and comics fans still die on the "no supposedly dead character should come back" hill. It's been happening for decades with the latter and has become a staple with the former over the last decade. It's not going away more than likely, it's just one of those things I've come to realize I have to live with for my enjoyment of the property.

Yeah I guess its just to each their own. If people like all the returns fine, I mean there is a reason disney did them. Just for me, it was a bit much and I think Luke showing up would've felt far more special at the end if they hadn't done the other stuff.

Revisiting old locations doesn't bother me quite as much, cause its useful to have at least one foot grounded in the familiar. If they were only visiting old locations then yeah, that's a problem. But I think having Tattooine appear, or do what Fallen Order did and bring back Kashyyyk while still adding other new locations, is a very reasonable approach to take.
