Let’s be real, Luke’s CGI was fine. Yes, it’s weird but I didn’t mind it and whatever, there’s not a Luke series coming.
Alright, having slept on it, I'm fine with the Luke scene. I wanted this show to stay as far away from the Skywalker saga as possible, but it does make sense that he's the one to answer the call. I think the thing that was bothering me about the way he was presented was because of this: I could just see the smiles on these chuds as I was watching it and it really soured me on the whole thing. That's a bad reason not to enjoy something. I've pushed that out of my head and I can enjoy it for what it is now. I think it was a nice touch to have him mowing through droids (particularly droids who only seem programmed for violence and don't seem free thinking like a C3P-0) instead of living stormtroopers. It helps things line up with where he was at the end of ROTJ and choosing a path of non-violence. I still think there could have been more interesting ways to do that scene, but I'm okay with it.
Side note: I really thought Cara Dune was going to die. Between the opening scene and her gun continually jamming, it seemed like something bad was going to happen to her. Looking back, the rescue went weirdly smooth with all the conflict between the team that was set up earlier in the episode.
Why is it so hard to disconnect Star Wars from politics for some people? It’s like some people allow a political party to dictate what they can and can’t like in Star Wars.
I don’t see how Luke being in this was “redemption” or a big middle finger to the sequel trilogy (and more specifically Rian Johnson). It’s Star Wars. It’s all in line with the universe. If anything The Rise of Skywalker was a big middle finger to Rian Johnson.
Even as a kid I never thought Luke was necessarily bad ass. Always kinda saw him as whiny. Didn’t dislike him though, he was fine as a hero. So I guess it makes sense all these whiny babies look up to him so much
This is the first I’m hearing the alt-right co-opting Luke. I’ll let them have the red hat. I’m keeping Luke.
Him fighting his way to get to Grogu was bad ass and his force projection in his fight with Kylo was bad ass. Nothing else he’s done screams “bad ass” in my opinion.
Yeah. In the original trilogy he was more of a reluctant hero type. He definitely upped the badassery as time went on.
Luke was less of a bad ass in the OT and more of a hero that never gave up. He was determined with doing what he thought was for the greater good and benefitted others more than himself (like giving up training to save Han and Leia from Vader even though Yoda and Obi-Wan both told him he stood no chance). Luke did go beast mode on Vader in ep 6, though.
I never thought about alt right dummies co opting Luke but it does make a bit of sense considering he “saw good” in a character that enacted a genocide. that’s not a full hop and a skip away from the classic libertarian faux musing and dog whistle “I don’t agree with your (nazi) beliefs, but I’ll defend to death your right to hold them”.
I always laugh my ass off when I see people try to suggest that the movies about anti-fascist Rebels bringing down a space dictatorship is not political. The absolute biggest morons on the planet.
No one said Star Wars itself doesn’t have a political message. There is a difference between finding politics that are already within a film and then placing your own politics in it. Like people that belong in the alt-right co opting Luke or whatever. Or people that won’t enjoy a character in Star Wars because people on the other politic spectrum enjoy that character.
What a ride this season was. It’s 2020 so I’d be happy if it was just 8 episodes of Bebe Yoda eating frogs. The fact that we have any form of Star Wars during this shit year is enjoyable. It’s unbelievable that this was an episode of a TV show. Just the tie fighters coming out of the chute was great. If production value is this top notch on all the series, I’m here for it. Got lots of closure in this episode. Even some tears.
I'm not a huge Star Wars fan/familiar with all the lore or anything, but this season seemed like a way better continuation to the original trilogies than the new movies. Just repeatedly show me Jedi jumping around chopping dudes up and I'll be stoked forever. Curious to see where it goes from here, is this the end of the Mando and it's all spin offs from here? Kind of seems like his story is done but I don't want to lose Pedro
Nah even when he gets captured he’s still like “free us or die” and immediately makes good on that threat lol
Is there anything canon between Empire and Jedi that shows how he goes about becoming confident/strong with the force? Would like to check it out if there is.
The alt-right also love Ahsoka for some reason, the Rebellion symbol, and Boba/mythosaur skull. Yeah it doesn’t make any sense. If they get rid of Gina though, I would feel so much better. I think that is also coloring things for me. We shall see. I do appreciate that the Luke scene does add to his overall mythos to the galaxy at large
