Totally. In my EOTY write up I described LLL as "a sonic sibling to the pop rock bliss of 2015's American Candy, building a mansion on its firmly laid foundation and lining every bedroom with Third Eye Blind and Oasis posters." Feel like that's the most accurate way to one-line this record lol
Podcast showed some potential. Interested to see where they go once they're out of 8123 dudes to interview, since I assume most of the guests for the foreseeable future will be all 8123 band and crew members. Love that they brought up Bad Motivation and the Lucky Dragon -- those were the days.
I don’t know if it’ll be the next podcast, but they taped one with Kevin from This Wild Life this week.
Your second statement is spot on, your first statement is fucking blasphemy though! They're becoming or have already become a poor man's Third Eye Blind, how is this hot take even possible?
I wouldn’t agree with that at all... The Maine have better melodies, better vocals, better overall songwriting, etc.
That is insane to me You've gotta at least admit 3eb has way better lyrics. That seems totally objective.
I really don’t personally care much about lyrics in this style of music, but also it’s silly to say anything is “objectively” better than anything else
I guess it was an exaggeration, but I was just thinkin' if you take "Motorcycle Driveby" and then whatever you think The Maine's best lyrical song is and just read them... Anyway, I was just wonderin' why you didn't like 3eb but liked The Maine since they're always compared, not tryin' to start a fight. You answered my question though.
I dunno, I’m not judging lyrics by who has the most eloquent poetry or whatever, I just want something that resonates with me. And I’m not really familiar with 3EB’s lyrics at all, because that’s usually the last thing I latch onto, but I also haven’t felt much drive to pay attention to them since I didn’t like anything else about what I heard
Yeah I feel I miss out on quite a few artists that are loved here because while lyrics are important to me, like I said they’re typically the last thing I notice about music and even lyrics I can recognize are very well written can’t really make me love music that doesn’t pull me in in other ways
^ I'm definitely that way about lyrics but I love 3EB. The instrumentation and melodies are engaging to me and the lyrics are just a big plus. I'd take modern day The Maine (LLL, AC) over modern day 3EB (WAD, Dopamine) no contest. That said, OOTV alone beats like anything The Maine has ever done
