I adore LLL. I think it's my AOTY. Science Fiction will prob topple it, but not as of yet. They just put up a smoke vinyl variant on their merch store limited to 500 a few days ago. Decided I needed it. Lovely, Little, Lonely - Vinyl (Smoke)
Its crazy how a band can come out this late in their career and make an album that just sucks me in. I have never enjoyed their music, but this album was unbelievable to me. I even have a couple copies of it in vinyl. I’ll probably part with one eventually but it’s just crazy how much I love this album.
it's probably overtaken Menzingers for me at this point, though i really can't bring myself to care about Bad Behavior and I Only Wanna Talk to You. so my AOTY is basically 5 songs and 3 interludes lol
The only album I've liked from The Maine is Forever Halloween, which was one of the top albums of 2013 in my opinion. I've heard very good things about their new album though, so I guess I'll give it a shot.
Yea, whenever someone mentions The Maine in other threads and their favorite album, FH is pretty much never mentioned. I had always assumed people agreed it was their best album but I thought about it earlier and couldn't recall a time when that had happened. Guess I was projecting. I don't really follow up on The Maine too much so it's safe to assume I was out of touch.
That's one of the reasons I like it. I understand that perhaps The Maine is for people looking for catchy hooks, but I like a little bit of restraint. Sometimes I feel like their music tries too hard to ingratiate itself onto the listener(me in this instance).
I did a full album run-through at some point over the summer and FH is still probably my least favorite album of theirs, even behind CSWS (although that’s probably mostly nostalgia). As of now, it’s probably LLL > B&W > AC > Pioneer > CSWS > FH
Haha just joining the convo! Also, I deliberately said “least favorite” because I enjoy all of their albums, just some more than others. I don’t think any of them are bad.
Interestinggg. I don't even think the band themselves actually likes B&W I'd prolly go LLL>AC=Pioneer>CSWS>B&W>FH
I really don't think it's "better" musically or anything, strictly for the nostalgia and catchiness, haha. FH just really isn't my cup of tea. Lacked hooks, and the songs just kinda blended together for me. Some of those b-sides though like "Vanilla" were great.
I low key feel kind of guilty cus when I was talking to Pat at the show a couple weeks ago I'm pretty sure I was like oh yea I don't like the first two as much, and I meant it as a compliment at how good they have become but I was feelin' pretty good and doubt I worded it the best way, so I hope it didn't come off wrong.
"ayy Pat your first 2 albums sucked but now you're actually p good, never would have guessed that based on your first 2 albums!"
Haha literally probably how it sounded. If you're out there Pat I'm sorry! They both still have plenty of bangers. Nah I wasn't that harsh about it, I think I just said like yea I didn't care for those two that much at the time.
Black & White has so many catchy bangers, I don’t get why people don’t like it. Showed so much growth from CSWS.
From interviews I've read, they didn't like B&W much. Wanted to go in a different direction but it sounded like the label really pushed them into this specific watered down sound. Then they left the label and wrote a badass album called Pioneer.
