I went back through their discography this week and was a little underwhelmed by their pre-American Candy stuff. I think maybe their last two albums have just raised the bar really high for me. That being said, I can't wait for this tour and I'm definitely grabbing tickets tomorrow.
yeah I started being a fan of this band when American Candy came out. Love the direction they went. I love the direction they went over the past few years.
I'm listening to LLL right now for the first time - never liked this band before but I've seen people comparing this to third eye blind, one of my favorite bands, and man, this honestly sounds like an album full of s/t or blue b-sides. This is great
Those are the only two I enjoy. I was in the same boat as you where the Third Eye Blind comparisons were so frequent I had to check them out. Third Eye Blind is my favorite band
They've got an every other record thing going. I really enjoy B&W, FH, and this, not so much the others
Honestly I have massive love for LLL I can't stop listening to it. So many summer rippers on there that need to be on the radio right now. It's been a long time since I've loved an album from front to back but this is one of those rare occasions I do. If anyone has any recommendations to albums that sound as good as LLL I'm all ears! I wasn't blown away by American Candy like others after listening to LLL but I really dig English Girls and Am I Pretty.
Yeah, 3eb just does it better, and I love LLL. No one can really top those Jenkins lyrics, to me at least.
Some of the joke lines in the serious songs are a good contrast to me. Almost every thing is gold. Rarely can I laugh and cry within one song.
I do like this band's recent output but man it would be cool to hear them release an album or ep in the vein of ice cave, such a kick ass track.
I'm wondering what 3EB album I would recommend to someone who had never really listened to them but loved this s/t is the obvious pick but I could see that not connecting as much right away (even tho it's an all-timer imo) Maybe Out of the Vein? Or Dopamine? either way, 3EB are great, this album is great, shouts to sun drenched guitars
Gave this album a random chance late this afternoon after hearing some praise on here. Only listened to The Maine very casually before and can't recall a single song in their past catalog, however........ this album NAILS it. As the first song was playing I was like, "ok... I'm in. I'm on board with this". Loved the interludes and how it expands on the album as a whole. Can't wait to give this more spins. This is a very pleasant surprise.
went to my first show of theirs last night. missed the first 4 and 1/2 songs cause i'm a piece of shit but it was kind of unforgettable. John and I have amazing chemistry judging from the couple of times he noticed me. also they played a weird version of Ice Cave and i didn't recognize it at all wtf what a poser these guys are quickly becoming one of my favorite bands not only because of how effortlessly they write music i can relate to, but also because of their amazing character, work ethic, and devotion to their fans. i interviewed Kennedy earlier this year and it seemed like they were very satisfied with the way they're conducting business, having control over everything and not owing anything to anyone. really hope they can keep going like this and maybe newer bands can learn from them. The Sound of Reverie has my SOTY locked and LLL is at least top 3.
