Their best album is either this or Forever Halloween. I also really like Black &a White, but not into Pioneer. It's also weird that, while I usually dig anything that supposedly has Third Eye Blind influences, I don't like 3EB at all.
Word, I agree! Yeah I've just always thought that and I guess decided it was a good time to go full-internet mode and put my opinion that no one asked for out there. Hahaha.
I love this album so much. I'm glad Kendrick didn't drop his this week. I wouldn't have appreciated this album as much
Finally got around to checking the new album out and I love it. Loved American Candy as well, but jeez, they knocked it out of the park with this one.
This is definitely my favorite album by the band. American Candy really got me into these guys in the first place. Listening back on their discography before AC, the only album I really dig is their debut.
I think I have to agree with you on this one. I almost wish this had come out in May because I don't think I could imagine a more perfect summer album than this right now. Then again, you've listened to the new NFG and I haven't, so. haha
Speaking of, I re-listened to all their full-lengths over the weekend and I think my ranking at present would be: 1. Lovely Little Lonely 2. Black & White 3. American Candy 4. Pioneer 5. Can't Stop Won't Stop 6. Forever Halloween
As of now, my ranking would be: Forever Halloween Black & White Pioneer American Candy Can't Stop Won't Stop Need more time to figure out where this goes. Maybe at the top, but could also go second.
I hadn't listened to Black & White for a while and, honestly, I was surprised at how well it holds up. The growth they demonstrated between Can't Stop Won't Stop and that album really boggles the mind.
Black & White is easily my least favorite Maine album. It's not even close actually. Definitely has some jams, don't get me wrong, but I think it really shows that they felt trapped between the music the label wanted them to make and the music they wanted to make. Don't Stop Now, Inside of You, and Color are great though and there's some other decent songs. Fuel to the Fire and Every Road are my 2 least favorite songs in the bands discography though.
Yeah B&W should be like the poster child for an up and coming band with too many cooks in the kitchen haha. Just a batch of boring as hell songs with zero identity. Inside Of You is salvageable thanks to that enormous bridge, though. Remember that weird Stephen Jenkins-esque rap hook thing they tried to pull off on that one too? Haha. Personally found the jump from that one to Pioneer much more impressive, despite Pioneer's lack of cohesion. Diff strokes!
Well damn I'm just going to do this: Pioneer >= Lovely, Little, Lonely > American Candy >= Forever Halloween > Can't Stop, Won't Stop >>> Black & White I could see LLL replacing Pioneer, but that's a special album to me, so only time will tell.
Am I the only one who thinks these guys have been declining since Forever Halloween? I think their latest two are okay, but they feel a bit shallow compared to FH.
It's weird. I just think it is way more emotional with tracks like "These Four Words" and "Fucked Up Kids". And though the recent albums seem to focus on catchiness, I don't think any tracks reach the catchiness of "Run" or "Love & Drugs". I'm really surprised that apparently no one else feels this way. Well, sucks for me, I guess. :D
Every song on B&W is catchy as hell. I don't really like Give It to Me but the rest is gold. I didn't like anything on CSWS outside of Everything I Ask For, but B&W really made me start to pay attention to the band.
