There's so many cool little nuances and details in each song that I'm discovering with each listen. One of my favorites is at end of Flowers when the backing vocals fade out and John's main vocal comes to the front of the mix.
got my vinyl copy and listened to it for the first time last night and yeah this is immediately my favorite thing I've heard this year. aggressively catchy and musically daring. theres also a confidence to them attempting to mix what I would say is a lot of different genres into a record that feels cohesive, and they nail it. I liked virtually every song so much I can't nail down favorites yet but god. damn.
I was ridiculously disappointed by this album on the first listen but on my second listen I got so engrossed that I ended up crying in Laurel Canyon so that was interesting, there are enough heavyweights coming out this year that I'm not sure it'll be my AOTY but it'll be up there
If they do what i think they’re gonna do with their next record, LLL -> YAOK -> (next lp) will be an incredible trilogy
ive never really listened to this band before btw, i checked out a few tracks from their last album about a week or two ago but thats it
Considering from the BTS vid,on YAOK they basically threw everything at the wall to see what stuck, especially from a songwriting and production standpoint. Seemed to be a very big learning experience for the band. I have no idea what the album would sound like, but if they can merge the focused songwriting from LLL with YAOK’s penchant for experimentation, the next one will be insane
