I think it’s the backing vocals on some tracks, a few pre choruses, a few solos (that I like) but don’t like in the song, a few weird time changes...etc. and then on nearly every track there’s a minute and a half of fucking greatness mixed in
I agree that Lovely Little Lonely is better than this for me (at least on my first couple listens)... but I’m also enjoying this a ton. I’m glad they tried something different, and imo it really pays off. The “jarring” moments are actually some of my favorite parts, they make the songs more surprising for me.
I think that speaks to the heart of the disagreement here... I think MCR were genius songwriters for being able to incorporate so many genres/styles in a track, the “jarring” moments were what made me eventually grow to love the band. I think there's something similar going on here. It’s not gonna be everyone’s thing and that’s okay... but for me it’s dope.
Yup...100%. I was never into them, and I probably won’t ever fully get into this album. But I totally understand why people like it and I respect that
As I’ve aged I’ve gotten much better at recognizing my opinion is just my own and the true subjective nature of music (duh) but I can’t think of many things I’d rather not ever hear than that man’s music lol and it’s not for not trying
One thing is for sure, this band can write a hell of a closer! We'll All Be Color Waiting for My Sun to Shine Forever Halloween Another Night on Mars How do you Feel Flowers on the Grave Three or four of those being massive sing-along closers you raise a lighter to, or I guess nowadays, your phone.
Gunna be patient and let my first listen be on my vinyl which is out for delivery today. very stoked on these takes though.
I think people are right, the 3 singles+ Heaven, One Sunset, Slip The Noose and Flowers on the Grave are all solid. Forevermore is what it is Shinju+I feel all over just feel so disjointed to me 80% isn't bad though with One Sunset and Heaven being absolutely stellar
Just finished my first listen, jaw was on the floor for all of Flowers. What a track. I haven't been this invested in one of their records since Forever Halloween. I wasn't a huge fan of Shinju, but loved everything else.
Honestly, what a fucking closer. I really felt that song. I personally related to it but with my son. He arrived at the exact time I needed him to.
