It doesn't really do anything for me, Numb was a weird single, flowers on the grave was cool but didn't have the lasting value. okay album, just not as good as the others. CSWS is a nostalgic piece, why it's so highly rated for me.
What's the general consensus on this? Seems mostly positive. Feeling like this record has some of their strongest songs to date but also a couple duds for me. High Forever and If Your Light Goes Out don't really work for me, with the former having an electro-rock feel I don't usually like and the latter just feeling undercooked. But the first three and last four tracks are fantastic. Edit: what's weird is I feel like their albums have been strong front to back for me since after B&W, which is my least favorite record. So it's strange to have two songs I don't dig
Funny you mention this as I just read an interview where John said he wasn't sure he wanted HF or If Your Light Goes Out on the record but the rest of the band favored them. My least favorite songs on the record for that exact reason, If Your Light Goes Out is just missing something.
I was obsessed with these guys as soon as stay up, get down came out but they lost me with B&W. Randomly I checked out AC, which I loved and really needed at the time, but then they lost me again when they dropped the song bad behavior. That album grew on me considerably but then I didn’t like YAO. with that all said, I feel like this is the album I’ve been waiting for them to make. To me, they’ve always been a pop rock band and all of their other music just sounded like watered down versions of the bands that inspired them. This record is fucking awesome and I wish them a ton of success. Pretty dirty beautiful might be my favorite on the record. This is the direction I wish the band Camino would’ve went. You can make radio friendly bops that have deep introspective lyrics and this record proves that.
I like everything on this album except High Forever, which I feel like is their most uninteresting song since pre-American-Candy stuff.
