High Forever is great. I guess i don't listen to Imagine Dragons enough to understand the comparison, and that's fine
I understand your thinking here for sure. My rebuttal is that even after all this time, I still think Cruel Summer would've been a great single choice. Following up "Sticky" with "DBP" would've been a slam dunk, IMO. But hey, I don't make the calls...im sure they put a ton of thought into it.
I think they put out the perfect singles. All of them were super catchy, some (Edit: Sticky) got good radio play, and they were a good representation of the sonic direction without giving away the breadth of it all.
I think people are confusing what's going to radio (a "single" in the more traditional, pre-streaming sense) with the pre-release tracks they made available. "Sticky" has been the only official single sent to radio so far. It's still doing well, so there's no need for an immediate follow-up. But there likely will be one ... they have a major-label radio team working this record ... and "Dirty, Pretty, Beautiful" would be a good choice.
What I like about Love in Real Time is that it doesn't feel imitative. So many bands try to cop that ILIWYS sound, and it immediately sounds like garbage, but this is just their own style of it. This will be a top 5 of the year for me.
I'm just going to have this album on loop repeat all damn day. I am so happy right now its ridiculous!
I disagree with this, mostly because If Your Light Goes Out sounds like an Imagine Dragons song, not High Forever. I really enjoy the album otherwise, but that's the one track that doesn't really do anything for me.
"Anxiety in Real Time" may be my favorite track on this record. I think that's the space that I enjoy The Maine the most, is songs like this one.
YAO is great - not sure what everyone's beef is with it. I like this more, but I see so many that are down on it.
The Maine have an opportunity here to open up for some massive acts if all goes well. John's charisma is undeniable. They played a free show at Mohegan Sun in CT and won over so many people who had never heard of them before, including the older demographic.
