I think the guitars on this album are too aggressive. I like how on American Candy and LLL they still sound thick and present but they're not so upfront. I think if the more lush ambient elements sat more up front in the mix/there was more of it the record would work better for me.
This is why I'm so glad that I waited to listen to any song from this...Sticky might be my favorite. On a first time listen - I LOVE this. Feels less 'weighty' then You Are OK, which I still loved; but I can see myself enjoying this more in the long run. Not a track I don't like, but Sticky, Dirty Pretty Beautiful, and Pretender are my favs. If you can't tell, I think they are at their best when writing straight bangers.
What’s the status with preorders? I ordered a CD + shirt bundle and haven’t gotten a shipping notification.
I wish they had a bigger management machine behind them, because Dirty Pretty Beautiful could be a massive hit.
This band has been in the zone now for four records. Some will argue longer or shorter, but regardless, it’s been a pleasure hearing their sound develop. “Dirty, Pretty, Beautiful” is out of this world.
My flight out of Phoenix today has been delayed 7 times. This just hit the music store and is the only thing I have going right now.
I’m about halfway through the album and love it. If Your Light Goes Out is such a beautiful track. I can’t wait to hear High Forever live.
Really love pretender - especially in context - that might be the one for me even with the minor Sonic complaints
