I think I’m just grasping at straws cause I like it I don’t mind the way it’s mixed. If anything, all the tracks feel really tight together and kind of on top of each other panning wise and is only panned wide at those harmony vocal spots. I dunno I don’t mind it. Clearly I’m in the minority though. Hopefully the next 5 are mixed perfectly. Y’all already liked sticky and lips so a 7/10 would be solid. I’m being very optimistic
Just heard another lil nugget at 1:13 on the youtube video "for the next two minutes, pretend you are infinite" the song on youtube is 3:13, know it's not intentional since length is 3:05 on spotify but nice lil touch
Do you guys have the same problem with the mixing/production on the other songs? I think "Sticky" sounds great. That's really the only one I've listened to a ton so far, in an effort not to spoil the album, but I really had no issues with it. Listening back to this one, it sounds fine to me. In general, I find that I'm a lot less picky about production/mixing than I used to be. Not sure why I've trended in that direction.
My biggest issue is how straight forward and repetitive many of them are so far. They are all catchy but it’s all so, empty?
only listened to Pretender once (gotta wait for album release for relistens) and it sounds completely fine to me. there's some extremely intentional compression on the louder parts, especially on John's vocals, but it's obviously very stylistic.
Honestly, after what we just lived through, I am all here for just a very catchy, fun album from these guys, even if it's not as weighty as Lovely Little Lonely. That's kind of where my tastes are leaning this year in general, actually: give me fun shit.
Yeah I mean. I’m happy people are enjoying the songs, watching them receive some commercial success is fucking awesome and that’s the only path to get there. But as a person that’s always happily rooted for this band, so far I’ve got nothing positive to say about these singles. It’s got nothing to do with the stylistic choices, sonic direction, or production. These songs are just kinda without. It feels like they all need several punch ups. Pretty much the most toothless version of how I’m feeling currently
Damn, I thought sticky and lips were about as strong as any other singles they have black butterflies is hard to beat
I’m already ready for a new ATL album even though it’s only a year old. I spun the thing to death all last summer.
I don't love what I've heard of this album so far, but it's very danceable and very jammy and will hopefully rip live. Can't wait for the full thing!
I love all 4 of these songs but my most immediate reaction to this one was that the mix was bizarre. I didn’t feel that way about any of the other 3 (in fact I think the other 3 are about as polished as they’ve ever sounded)
These 4 new songs are probably my favorite thing this band has done. Incredibly stoked for this album
