Random question but how is Blame doing on alt radio? When I had Sirius, I heard sticky and loved you a little all the time, but have cancelled since. I hope this record gets them to the next level
My overall take is that this takes a lot of the best parts of the last 3 albums - the cohesive feel of LLL, the pop(rock) hooks of that album and XOXO, the (at times) darker/more somber/reflective vibe of You Are OK - and spins them together into its own great package.
Had my first listen driving with the windows down. This is the culmination of everything they've done since AC (the first album cycle I was a fan for) and I'm absolutely all about it. Gonna be a weird week with basically just this and Utopia in my rotation lol
God that chorus bass line in Leave In Five is really reminding me of something and it’s driving me nuts trying to figure it out haha. I’m sure it’ll just come to me one day. It’s a cool little hook for the song though, one of those lines I’ll probably find myself singing along to instead of the actual vocals lol. Very Tame Impala sounding
I had the same thought on that bass line. Closest thing I could think of was "Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine." It's not exact, but they both have that little highlighted part at the end of the phrases.
Damn, I didn’t expect Spiraling to be the end. Went right into Taxi and I was like, “did they re-do this?”
I think this is finally actualizing what I expected/hoped them to release after LLL. I really like the last two albums, the last being a surprise fun as hell summer listen, and the previous being somewhat underrated now. But this is exactly the vibe and sound I have been craving for them to return to and play with. From the aesthetic to the music itself. Very good chance this will feature high on my eoty list.
Every time I listen to this another song grabs me, and I cannot wait to dig into the lyrics. I wish the vinyl was going to ship sooner but I knew going in I’d have to wait. I just hope I don’t overplay it between now and then, but so far there’s a high chance of that’s exactly what’s going to happen haha
This is definitely a spiritual successor to LLL and I feel similarly about it initially to how I did about that album at first too: that it generally flows really well, works best as a complete listen, and that it’ll take some time for individual songs to stand out - which I think is even more true of this record than that one XOXO followed by this kind of feels like the American Candy to LLL transition again. You are OK is still my favorite but feels like more of an outlier in their discography now
I’ve listened to this 5 or 6 times today, so safe to say I love it. I still love YAO, thought they had some of their most interesting/different work on there. I would be intrigued to see what a heavier (for lack of better term) album like Pioneer and FH would sound like from them now. I think they could do something cool with a tighter track length and the focus/musicianship they’ve been showing since! Band don’t miss.
This album has also made me miss Tuesday releases. Even albums I’m excited for get sucked up by the weekend and it’s normally the week after before I get to listen to them. (Not the end of the world obviously, but it’s nice to have spent all day with this, whilst working)
I thought the first song was an Interpol cover for a sec lol intro sounds just like obstacle 1 Album is fun so far!
Oh FUCK yeah this rules. Smoked a j and walked around my neighborhood in the rain on first listen cars and caution signs is the one that absolutely blew me away first listen. Wow.
It’s funny cause if you really wanted a ballad at the end, I feel like, funny how? Would work better than cars and caution signs ha Also, I don’t get how y’all don’t like Spiraling.. love it.
I’ve followed these guys since I saw them open for Good Charlotte in 2008. I think this their best album. Straight bangers!
