Can’t wait to listen to this over and over. This band deserves stadiums and all the glory the elites get.
This is easily at the level of mastery of a band like Jimmy Eat World or Third Eye Blind. Great execution of a self-titled album this deep into their run, too.
crossed my mind a few times on first listen, that there are genuine moments on here that rival big moments in the discographies of Coldplay or The 1975. Big injustice that they don’t receive the same reverence on such a scale. But maybe that could be changing!
Yeah after my first listen I already agree with this. I can absolutely see the argument for Cars & Caution Signs being the “obvious” closer, but I actually like that Spiraling ends the album with such a huge earworm as a final coda of sorts… Folie is a great comparison. This is a phenomenal album overall, holy shit!
I actually think spiraling is my least favorite on here - so for me it’s less the vibe and more the quality of the finish
This is blowing my fucking face off. leave in five right into the mood I’m in.. flawless. I’m laying here in bed, AirPod pros in, lights out and my face is just distorted cause my jaw has dropped a couple times. I’m loving this. I can already tell this is going to be up there with Lovely, Little, Lonely for me. Half way through and not a single miss.
How is their 9th album their best.. this is wild. I wasn’t expecting it to be this good. You Are Ok and XoXo kind of underwhelmed me. This is immediately leagues better than both. Just add Colby to the band already. I love John’s vocals and the bass driving a lot of these songs. I usually love slow song closers, but I can’t agree with y’all. I’m loving Spiraling. I loved seeing hints of this Maine on songs like Dirty, Pretty, Beautiful and Lost in Nostalgia. Bloomed beautifully into that modern 80’s pop vibe.
Very groovy album overall, I think Blame is still one of my favourite songs that they've ever done. It doesn't touch LLL and maybe XOXO for me but we'll see on the latter with more time. Lot's to take in on here. I wish they'd give us Dolby Atmos versions of their albums.
This is quite hard to answer! If you like really solid/consistent pop rock, you’ll probably like these guys. Especially “American Candy” onwards. “Pioneer” and “Halloween” are more rock focussed and maybe not as tight overall but still great. First two albums are catchy and although I like them, they have only gotten better. Saying that “Right Girl” is still one of my favourites. I feel like they have their own sound but a lot of their music has hints of everything but I feel like if you took Jimmy Eat World, a hint of PATD, Pale Waves and Muna and blended them you’d get The Maine. I had a look at “fans also like” on Spotify and I’d say The Maine are better than every last one of them and not all that similar at all outside their debut.
