Perfect opportunity for me to plug that I do have an extra ticket to the Chicago show if anyone is looking for it. I bought it then realized I'm going to a wedding that night, so I'm going to Milwaukee instead.
Went to the NYC show / emo night on Thursday and just got home from the free CT show tonight. Band killed it both nights and the new songs sound incredible live. Worth noting that tonight in CT they replaced The Way We Talk with Ice Cave and played an alternate version of Right Girl (which was more rock n' roll, slowed down and more swing-y). They didn't do either of these things in NYC. Might have been because of the older crowd (free 21+ show at a casino). Also mentioned that they'll be back around in the fall.
Went tonight. Such a fun bill start to finish. The Mowgli's are one of the happiest bands, always a blast to see them. Also holy shit, The Maine really never cease to amaze me. Seriously one of the coolest bands and one of the best live bands.
That was an amazing show. I'm going to stop saying the Maine is my favorite "pop rock band from that era of music" or whatever the hell I would say, and start calling them what they are - one of my very favorite bands period. Very excited for them to come back in the fall, which they said they are (I feel very strongly they'll be at Riot Fest.) I'm really looking forward to hearing more Lovely Little Lonely songs.
They are opening for Dashboard/American Rejects. I'd guess dates come out tomorrow or Tuesday. There must be a Chicago or MN date or they would have already announced
I really hate that The Maine got lumped in with a lot of those forgettable pop-rock bands of the late '00s. They're way more talented than that.
I personally think that they will not be playing with Dashboard and AAR in Chicago but will play at Riot Fest instead, but that's definitely some wishful thinking. I mean they deserved it at the time but they've far exceeded them at this point, and it's definitely frustrating. I will say I noticed a lot more dudes there tonight, and I wish that didn't mean anything, but I definitely think guys tend to get more caught up in thinking a band is a "chick band" or whatever so it feels like people are maybe starting to realize it's time to give this band another chance.
Tonight in Milwaukee, John said from stage "I'm pretty sure we'll see you in the fall." Maybe just means there isn't a Milwaukee date on the Dashboard tour.
