Idk bout y’all but I loved this one. Def up there in top four after a first spin. I think solidly behind LLL and XOXO but need to obviously let this one sit again. Back half is a rollercoaster and Half a Spark…. Sheeeeeeeeeeshhh!!!!!!!
There are good songs here! But the mix doesn't do it for me. It doesn't pack the punch that their mixes did up to XOXO and that's usually what I need to really enjoy and feel energized by music. The singles grew on me so I'm expecting to enjoy this album in a while but not to the same degree that I probably could've with a beefier mix.
It’s a nice little concept album. Nothing blows me away but it’s all pleasant. Some moments stand out more than others but it is very samsey
It’s a decent record. Obviously it’s foolish to make any sweeping statements off two full listens, but it hits no great heights and has no real clunkers. Probably my least favourite thing they've released since FH. Watch me absolutely adore it next week.
Damn. Wasn’t as immediate for me as the singles and the last few albums were, especially self-titled. That one hit me here really fast. Good vibes on this though. It will be a grower, for sure.
I’m going to have to listen to this (plenty) more times, but this bounced off me the first listen. Certainly a more introspective, meditative take than their last few.
Echoing the other sentiments in here, it’s okay. Definitely the thing i’ve enjoyed the least from them upon release since before American Candy. The production is really fuzzy and muddy which makes an already very mellow album even less punchy. This doesn’t really capture me at any point. “Green” is my favorite on here by a country mile. We will see how it grows over time!
Definitely the least immediate for me of any of their records from AC to present but Quiet Part Loud has been periodically getting stuck in my head so honestly fully expecting it to grow on me significantly
I think this album will be a grower for a lot of people. It hit me the same way AC, LLL and Self Titled did which are my favorite records by them. These songs have so many layers and catchy melodies even with the less punchy production. I still think there are plenty of "Bops" on this album. Feels like a mature, exciting and natural evolution for the band especially with it being album 10. I've also been following these songs being made on pillar so i knew a bit more what to expect.
Im loving this album. It's breezy. The first listen didn't hit me with that "holy shit" feeling like their last album did, but this will be great in the car with the windows down this spring/summer.
This album feels like it has more direct lineage to their FH/Pioneer days, albums I never really connected with in contrast to the last few. It’s not really what I look for from the band, but I’m happy they made it…if that makes sense?
fully agree, it has a LOT of depth, I’d place it fully after Pioneer, AC and Xoxo but absolutely the best album they’ve made since 2020
Joy Next Door sounds like a Lawful Good Neighbourhood album (complimentary). Really loving the title track, that chorus is so simple yet so sweet. I don't know how well the reverb soaked production works with John's vocals, can't tell if it's "bad" or if I need to adjust to it. The singles work pretty well within the context of the record, even if the whole thing doesn't transition as well as something like LLL. It's a good album overall, just need to listen more. Also, with regards to sound of reverie, that might be my favorite song of all time, so it's great to see that get some love in the thread.
I’m enjoying this a lot. It doesn’t quite have an outright banger per se but very enjoyable listen. I think it blends very nicely into the back catalogue, even if it’s not an immediate stand out. I actually think it works much better as a whole, enjoying the singles more than I did listening to them in isolation.
