LLL is one of the only albums I knew would be a classic from the teaser marketing videos. It had a special feel immediately.
I learned yesterday from that podcast that originally the LLL album art was going to be John underwater but for whatever reason they ended up shifting the plan and Pat is the person you see in the artwork.
As someone who didn't become a fan until that album, this makes me happy to hope for. I wasn't sure how they felt about full-album plays like other bands. Some seem to despise the anniversary tours, and looking back, I don't get that vibe from The Maine, as they are very proud of their body of work.
I don't think they're against album plays, but they do tend to make it more of a special event, unless they are doing their newest album. They've never done a full fledged anniversary run as far as I can remember. The American Candy shows last year are the closest they've come, but that was still just a handful of shows. If they're going to do a full national tour for an album though, I assume LLL would be the one so it'll be interesting to see. I'm even torn on a personal level because of course I want it to happen so I can see the album in full again, but I also appreciate that they've kept going so strong without leaning too far into nostalgia, so if they don't choose to do it, I would respect the decision.
Y’all are forgetting the Modern Nostalgia tour!! They played American Candy front to back, took an intermission, then came back onstage and played Lovely Little Lonely front to back. It was the greatest show I’ve seen them put on. 18 city tour. 2 albums in full. Every night.
Best way to approach would be directly, like you mentioned. Call it Modern Nostalgia 2.0 or Modern Nostalgia Nostalgia.
Haven't watched yet but it’s just so cool to see them still achieve new “firsts” like this so far in to their career. Release week got me in my 8123 feels
The show was great! I enjoyed the slightly different renditions of songs like "Another Night on Mars" and "Taxi". Their new set design is rad, though our venue couldn't fit all their lights. Seeing more of the band members playing synths during the set was great. They sounded top-notch, the new songs really popped live, and I was quite impressed with "Touch" too. I'd never heard "Take Me Dancing" before, but they brought all the openers on stage with them for that one. During "We All Roll Along", there was a crowd interaction part where they first spotted one of their very first fans (I've seen him at a previous Maine set), and they let him sing a bit, and at the same moment another guy and his spouse came down from the balcony, and it turned out to be a former little league teammate of John's, whom he hadn't seen since 2009. That was a really touching moment to witness. Tried to get my AC and Dyed vinyl signed, but was only able to grab 4/5 on one and 3/5 on the other. I missed Jared completely. If anyone is looking for advice on grabbing signatures, this was my first time trying it at barricade afterwards, and you should go to the outer edges first for Jared, Garrett, Pat, Kennedy, and then John in the middle. I had much more to say about this, but I'll leave it at that LOL.
How is there not a single American Candy song on that set list! Kennedy Curse fantastic inclusion though
This confirmed to me that I'm not a huge fan of the production on the recorded version. I like this version better.
The record is also available on Amoeba! Hoping they have it on stock on Friday in SF. Purchased just in case.
Clips of every song here. Absolutely love the vibes they're giving off. Going to be a great night drive album.
Half A Spark, Alone for A Year and It’s Not Over Yet sound SO good. John did an interview recently where he said Joy Next Door (the song) has a bunch of distortion in the choruses so I’m excited to hear how it sounds with the slow clip from that video too.
Really loving the falsetto? On joy next door, I think Garrett mentioned that John sings falsetto that entire song? Could have been thinking of a different. last two tracks sound like bangers, god damn this is a vibe.
the modern nostalgia tour was the first time I saw the band live and made me a fan for live. what a time
