I watched the trilogy over the last few days for the first time in a while. Still so good. While I love the scale of the battles in TT and ROTK, Fellowship is the best for sure. It's such a grand sweeping adventure and so expertly crafted. I still need to get around to this, but the rewatch really reignited my enthusiasm for this story.

No show runners??? This is going to end up a mess. They should just stop filming until the writers strike is over.

saw a post that said HotD is planning to do the same

its not a big deal though, GoT has never suffered under poor direction and writing

  13. First episode is 66 min of Galadriel on horseback in slow-mo, roll credits

  14. Sounds like a disastrous decision for such an expensive show where the writing is where it can be improved most.

well letting the writer's strike happen in general seems like a disastrous decision but hey I'm not the studio exec

they discussed this on the watch today actually. not LOTR specifically, but any of the shows progressing filming bc scripts are "finished," as if edits and stuff changing doesn't happen constantly during filming.

I know they weren't facing a writer's strike but this still makes me think about how they decided to bump The Hobbit movies up from two to three and didn't have scripts so we ended up with scenes like Legolas fighting a CGI Bolg in Laketown (What the actual fuck?!?!???) in what is ostensibly supposed to be a movie of The Hobbit. That was the last scene I remember from the first time I watched the movie in theaters because I was so distraught with what was happening on screen that I just kept ordering drinks and got hammered.

Honestly, this show and basically any other facing the same situation right now would probably be better off sticking to the scripts that they already have religiously - at least some people already thought about that stuff ahead of time and tried to make it make sense and tell a story. Just winging it on set is like a super expensive version of the Judd Apatow style comedy ad-libbing / riffing - yeah sometimes very specific actors can make it work very well and you capture lightning in a bottle, but 99% of the time you're going to end up with garbage that is hard to sit through and doesn't make any sense.

I'm torn, because I really like this show and I want it to be good, but also I hate Jeff Bezos so much so it would actually be very fun to watch him flush billions of dollars down the toilet in a stupid way.

We reach for the longest shadow

With this one I don't really care what's going on with the script, I just like watching the LOTR world. I'm more worried about how they treat WoT considering they have very detailed source material and still might find a way to screw it up.
