Even getting a vision of the Sundering of Numenor got me all excited in the nerdiest way possible.

Really intriguing move the pieces along episode.

The “who is Sauron” game is fun. Adar seems like the best candidate to me thus far. Book spoiler: Numenor/Pharazon is a red herring if they’re sticking to lore. Sauron doesn’t really affect their fall. It’s all man’s hubris that brings about the Valar sinking the island.
I like that I can know the world but still watch this and discover the new plot lines and still have mysteries and questions of my own. Bronwyn’s son’s direction has me very perplexed.

I think the son is going to be part elf - we haven’t seen his ears yet

  7. This show is really good. Absolutely gorgeous to look at. I haven't looked at the online discourse other than hearing about the racist people but If you like Jackson's trilogy I can't imagine not liking this. The harfoot haters have to be happy about this last episode lol.

I kind of hope Sauron is someone we haven't met yet, just already working on deception behind the scenes to be revealed later.

I figured Sauron in disguise was the short haired angsty looking elf they showed in the promos.

This got me in the mood to rewatch the trilogy, and after finishing that I decided to rewatch the Hobbit trilogy for the first time since they came out.

man, I’m such a sucker for the musical cues from the originals. When Galadriel asks Gandalf why Bilbo, and he explains with the Shire theme playing, I thought hey maybe these movies ain’t so bad.

Hobbit definitely isn't bad in its connection to LOTR trilogy, but I don't think they stand too well on their own. I rewatched Unexpected Journey recently and had a smile most of the time.

I'd say for the most expensive show in history it's a decent letdown. Halfway through season 1 and not much has really happened. The writing is pretty average. I think the actors are doing good for what they are given. It also has huge shoes to fill. But i'd argue most Tolkein fans seem to be overall disappointed.

  19. Lol it ain’t my money, why should I measure my enjoyment relative to how much it cost to make? This show is enjoyable at a minimum. If you feel otherwise I am strongly suspicious you’re going into it trying not to enjoy it

I think the show looks incredible so I can definitely see where the money went. I'm fine with it taking it's time narratively since I've been enjoying everything they've done so far a lot.

Yeah, I'm not enjoying it so I must have an agenda.

  22. I'd even go so far as to say more shows should take their time with their story! It's been a welcome change of pace. Never going to convince people that had their minds made up before watching one second of the show, but every single person I've told to watch the show has loved it.

It also reflects the genre really well! Most fantasy doesn’t move fast. Wheel of Time was definitely impacted by the pace increase.

  25. Yep, give me all the damn world building!

And there's at least one (usually more) shot every episode that has me going "holy shit that looks incredible" - compared to me laughing at how bad everything looks in these Marvel shows right now - it's very refreshing.

For people needing an action sequence or sex scene to stay interested, maybe the show based on some folks doing a lot of walking around and singing weird ass songs ain't for you. :crylaugh:
