Now that this is more in motion. I think we'll probably see a trailer around the release of Wheel of Time, if I had to guess.

Not sure what I was expecting once I heard the narrator, but it certainly wasn't that. After a sentence or two, I got used to it. Maybe I was just still waiting to hear Cate Blanchett.

It hasn’t been said in here, but that entire video is made with practical effects. They actually forged all the letters. Hope that shows a return to practical over whatever The Hobbit films tried to be.

Does the go-pro footage they used in the second one count as a practical effect?

Peter Jackson set the bar for LOTR so high there's no way this won't be disappointing. I'm cautiously optimistic though..

And then The Hobbit Trilogy drastically lowered that bar.

The narration in the teaser sounds like the narration in the Dungeons & Dragons episode of Community, which is essentially itself a parody of LOTR.

*The studio lowered the bar drastically, this article sums things up quite well

“Because Guillermo Del Toro had to leave and I jumped in and took over, we didn’t wind the clock back a year-and-a-half and give me a year-and-a-half prep to design the movie, which was different to what he was doing,” revealed Jackson. “It was impossible, and as a result of it being impossible, I just started shooting the movie with most of it not prepped at all."

That and the fact the Hobbit films consisted of so much CGI and was split into 3 films. The Hobbit should have been at most only a 2 film deal and even that is pushing it.

Did the CGI make him ruin the story with unnecessary additions?

I (perhaps naively) believe that Peter Jackson made LotR as a passion project, where as Amazon is likely trying to milk the property for lots of money.

I dont even think the cgi is bad, apart from Legolas running up falling rocks, but thats just goofy in general (and so is Legolas sliding down a set of stairs on a shield like a snowboard). Lack of prep and stretching a ~280 page book across three movies doomed it from the start.
