Yes. But what does that have to do with putting sauce on a burger? If the burger is already great and you add a sauce to it that not only tastes great, but compliments the other ingredients on the burger... how is that a negative?
My point was that if you have to create a special sauce for your burger you'd be better off revisiting the burger itself and making it good enough to stand on its own.
I disagree. Cake + frosting is the standard cake presentation (in most cases) just like burger + bun.

I see what you're saying, but I don't think you're looking at it right. If the burger is already a perfectly seasoned and cooked patty, what's gonna make it better, doing nothing else or adding ingredients/sauce that are also well executed which enhance the flavor of the meat? If you took two patties, prepared them both perfectly, and topped one with a delicious sauce... what do you think is gonna taste better? It seems obvious to me.
