The shrines definitely get more complex and dungeon like as you go along. I'm almost at the second dungeon but my girlfriend has fallen asleep so I need to stop for today. Hopefully much more progress will be made tomorrow!!
Same lol. I'm taking a break right now, but right before I stopped I was like "ok, I think I'm going to head to the first dungeon now". So I got up high to see where I had to go...aaaaand immediately spotted 3 more shrines to go take care of.
There's a couple of hiccups in the framerate at times, but nothing significant to where it takes away from enjoyment. Not to this point at least. The shrines in this game run smooth as fuck. It's just the grass and some of the textures that can appear very vibrant and smeared at times during TV mode, but that's just me nitpicking. Like, seriously. I'm extremely happy with this game and it's performance on the Wii U. My plan is to get a switch at some point down the road. Maybe if a bundle is released? Or new colored joycons and a better game lineup. (Besides Zelda, nothing is really jumping out at me so far... gimme Metroid, Pikmin, Mario, more info about online play, VC, and some blockbuster 3rd party support and I'm there)
I spent waaaay too much time looking for the last cuckoo in Kakariko. All that searching for a fuckin purple rupee.
Should note about Wii U performance, I made my earlier statement before getting to any towns. That's 100% where the game struggles the most, it gets very very bad sometimes. Luckily, gameplay isn't really affected by it because it's not like you're ever in combat while you're in a town.
Interesting. I'm sure I'll run into it at some point. Still in the very early stages of the game, I reckon.
Exploring this game is way too fun. Currently I'm having way too much fun ambushing enemies near campfires.
Kaam Ya'tak Shrine is my favourite one I've seen in limited play. I decided to head west instead of east off the plateau and the trek to the desert is remarkable, even though I had no armor so I died a million times getting there. Currently destroying East Hyrule with some crazy Lizalfo weapons.
This game is truly incredible. I've never felt such a great sense of mystery and wanting to explore an open world to find every secret hidden. I'm loving every minute of this.
I've put exactly 3 hours and 50 minutes into it yesterday and today, according to my Parental Control app. So 7 hours and 40 minutes. For a dad with a toddler and a 7 month old, that's unprecedented in recent years.
So far my only real complaint is the amount of time spent in the inventory. I'm sure it's more noticeable for us playing on WiiU. I find myself glancing down at the blank gamepad and thinking how great it would be to slide and tap through my inventory on the fly. Besides that the game is incredible.
Same here, I wasn't even bothered that my 2 week old kept me up all night. Today I played for like 4 hours while my older kids watched Disney Jr. I felt kinda bad, it was a beautiful day I should've taken them to the park or something
The more I play and new feature gets revealed, the more I wonder how anything's going to top this. Like ever. Maybe a better framerate in an update, but it's overflowing with so much content and they all go together so seamlessly.
I really haven't noticed any framerate issues on the Switch. I've played both docked and a bit handheld. I'm a little over 22 hours in. I've beaten one dungeon (the puzzle design in this game is amazing) and have pretty much been sticking to the south east region of the map so far. As much as I've explored I feel like I've barely scratched the surface of the areas I've been. I spent two hours there yesterday. After many attempts, I had killed everything on the island but Hinox and I slipped up right at the end. I've upgraded my bombs and have about double the hearts. Going to attempt this again tonight. Edit: MUCH easier the second time.
I've been choosing stamina. I have a ton of food that restores hearts, but haven't made a whole lot to boost stamina. My only issue is those one hit kills :(
Am I just being an idiot navigating these menus? Say I want to get to my weapons. I have to move the cursor through all of the food/shields/bows first. Having the control stick switch between items, L/R triggers switch between sections, and ZL/ZR triggers switch between menu types (instead of having L/R also switch menu types) seems like it would be the right way to do things. Is there another way to quickly switch to weapons (which I keep having to do to drop stuff) Still on the fence about this whole breakable weapon thing. I like having to put some strategy into which weapon I use, but I feel like if I have all my "tools" (axe, torch, hammer... found some stuff that I imagine I'll need a pickaxe for later), have a couple of "save this for a big scary guy" weapons suddenly I have like two weapon slots left which isn't good enough. It can also be clunky having a weapon break mid battle which happens quite often. Also bummed they can't at least have just put a copy of the map on the gamepad. Its like one final dickslap to Wii U users to go "hey yeah it turns out this gamepad we created for dual screen experiences that was half the point of our system is so useless we're not even gonna use it for the zelda game on the system" Enjoying pretty much everything else.
Holding right on the dpad lets you choose a weapon quickly. Also I wouldn't bother holding onto tools, chances are if you need one, there'll be one nearby. Plus it's easy to upgrade your inventory if you're going for the Korok seeds. In the menu though you should be able to use the right analogy stick to switch between pages which makes it quicker than going through all of the items..
Haha yeah. Sounds about right. Currently just roaming the first few regions looking for shrines, koroks and things I might have missed. Also playing without the minimap and I feel like I'm enjoying the game more. That was one mistake I made in Xenoblade X. I was glued to the bottom right screen most of the time, and wasn't able to fully appreciate the topography.
