I too do not care for TotK, the magic of Breath of the Wild was about exploration and discovery and surprises, I don't need to build laser turret tanks on the same places I've already been to with only two new environments stretched out over the entire map. putting all the old amiibo outfits in chests underground is wild... this game took SIX years to make lol
The story and temples in TOTK are way better than BOTW, though still they could have been much better But I really hated how (1) the depths are pretty empty and boring, (2) half the shrines are just the blessings where the actual challenge was nothing more than lugging a dumb crystal somewhere, and (3) how tons of the sky islands were mostly just those dumb crystal challenges The Zoanite devices / crafting component was way too much of the focus of the game despite being totally skippable if you really wanted. Like I don’t think they did the best job incorporating them into the main part of the game. So if they aren’t a big draw for you on their own, then they’re just kinda there (outside of the handful that are genuinely useful in most circumstances, like the rocket)
I dug TOTK overall but also found it exhausting by the end of it. I would love a NG+ mode that let us start a new playthrough with full health, stamina, and most importantly, batteries. The battery forging was way too tedious.
Agreed on the battery forging It's why I never updated my v1 copy of the game and duped everything so I could max out my batteries haha
I’m on my 4th retry of TOTK since I keep getting exhausted by the grind of it, then I let it sit for a while and always forget what I was doing and feel like I need to restart. But I’m sure this time will be different…
I did love TOTK. It's probably my 2nd favorite Zelda after BOTW. It's just missing the wonder of awe that BOTW had. Really curious on what the next Zelda will look like on Switch 2. Hopefully we see something within a couple years.
I'm waiting for them to do the technomagic New Hyrule City, ff7 Midgard style. Death Mountain is like a stadium, Hyrule Castle is a skyscraper, cowboy bebop sky monorail over Lake Hylia, Hyrule Field Central Park, the Gerudo district they have to do it eventually
The lack of a DLC is also a huge knock on TOTK. Master Mode and the Champion’s Ballad were actual challenges and added so much to BOTW
Lack of material that provided a ton more to both the story and gameplay is a bad thing, yes. You're focusing too much on the "DLC" part and not the actual substance of that DLC, which was pretty clearly my point
Skittybitty has a passionate 3.5 hour YouTube essay about why TOTK is bad and they make a lot of compelling points Did I sit through the whole thing? Hell no, but I did some skimming through lol.
You very literally are. Your post immediately following this one proves that. I’m talking about the content itself, not that it came in DLC form, which you are very weirdly fixated on You can reply to this if you want but this will be the last time I reply to you about it
Since I’m allowed to reply… I’m really glad you’re here to tell me what’s happening inside my head. It’s about time somebody knew.
Oh I wasn't actually encouraging anyone to watch it haha. I was on/off tuning into a speedrunner 100% the game a few weeks back without ending stream until he finished it, so he would throw the video on when he took breaks to eat.
No judgment meant to you in my dismissiveness. Just making fun of the name. If I watched it, it’s possible I’d agree with a lot of their critique. It’s not a perfect game and they could have done more in some areas. But it’s not a bad game. I do think BOTW is better. I finally went back to it recently for the first time since TOTK came out. It was super frustrating not being able to drop items/weapons easily and having to pause the game every time I opened a chest to drop an item and then open the chest again. Stuff like that. But BOTW is still a masterpiece to me. Again, there are some fair critiques of it, but damn it just hits so good.
